I know many of us also check out the dvdreviewer bargain buckets forum, but just to prove once and for all that this forum hosts quite a better quality of bargain hunter, here is one post (cut and pasted) from their thread about these players:

    Great spot, thanks.

Now I can watch high quality !!!!!! videos in the privacy of my own toilet.

    Enough said!

First of all this is a great find and I'm so glad I picked this up. Amazing bargain.

But does anyone know what the screen resolution of the unit is? In other words what is the smallest resolution I can get to for the screen so I can keep the file size down to a minimum.

Am using a program called Fairuse Wizard and it's really good for letting you select the specified file size/resolution you want the videos to be at so I'm obviously trying to get it as small as possible without losing the quality to fit as much on.

    Cheers for any help

Yes, I too have noticed you can't seem to get rid of the time elapsed counter while watching videos. This is extremely annoying and worse than an on-screen channel logo because the thing is continually changing. I have e-mailed Genus about it but received no reply. It's also annoying that there is no resume play or proper fast forward/rewind facility. It's all too easy to push the little joystick to jump 30 secs and end up playing the next video and then having to start the other one from the start again. I have tried the TV output which is in NTSC. The spec of the device claims it can do PAL, but I can find no way of changing the output to PAL? Are there some hidden menus we aren't aware of? Also, the left and right audio appear to be reversed. Having used the thing for a few days I would rate it at 9/10 for picture quality, 6/10 for sound quality, and 2/10 for features/usability.

I am using the Fairuse Wizard too. I've been experimenting with different resolutions over the last few days. Here's what I've tried on a 45 minute programme sourced from DVD:

Size: 100Mb, Res: 114x112 - Perfectly watchable but slightly blurry and not too smooth in fast moving shots. Should get about 7 hours worth of video at this rate, so great if you want to pack the stuff on!

Size: 200Mb, Res: 208x144 - Very good and much sharper than the 100Mb option. Far smoother action shots.

Size: 300Mb, Res: 224x160 - As good as the original DVD!

Just finished trying 150Mb at 208x144. The picture is now perfectly sharp with only slight jerking on fast moving shots.

So had they scanned in the MP4 player; leads and leather case together, it still would have come up as £49.99?

Well Mine were all scanned in all came up on the screen, and £49.99 cost.

Still trying to find the ideal piece of software to create a MP4 file from a DVD, have download intervideo for the ipod and Fairuse Wizard (the light version). Has any one less found the ideal solution ?
