    Hi

I picked up 1 on the weekend. I didnt get any video leads or leather case with it. When I asked if they came with it, the lady said 'that I was pushing it considering I got it for £50 - and not £150!)

Should I have got the extras?

Go to a different store and try there. We weren't given the leads or case either so we went to a different Dixons and they're ordering them for us.

    Hi all

Has anyone else had any problems playing music files? I've tried to load lots of tracks that have been ripped from CDs and none of them are playing. They're all in the audio folder and I just dragged and dropped them into the folder as the manual says.

When i had a look at the files on my computer, they all say Protected Content but this seems to be the case with any music I rip from a CD. Any idea how to get around this? Also, will this player play any music bought from iTunes etc?

    Thanks!!

have you ripped them to mp3s or to some other format?

If u are using media player to rip then I think this might be cos u have not turned off the annoying copy protection.

Go to tools - options - Rip Music tab - then uncheck Copy Protect.

    Hope this helps.

Went into Curry's today in Plymouth, and saw the genus marked up at £49.99 on display. On the other display they had the carrycase and the leads pack both marked up at £19.99 each. They had no genus' on the shop floor and asked extremly helpful staff member if he had the unit with the leads and case.

He checked on computer said yes, went out back and retrieved 8 of them. He opended it up and said "oh yep leads here and case should be here too" I corrected him and said I believed the carry case and leads pack from the other display were included. He doubted it but I asked him to check on the computer. Lo and behold and to his surprise.......all three for £49.99!!!!! :rotfl:

He then said I could have the 3yr warranty for £39.99!!!!! I motioned to the price label which said 3 yr warranty for £9.99 and he suggested he give me his shirt as I was doing a better job than him!!! :T

He was impressed at the price and the manager wandered over, the sales guy pointed out the deal "Have you seen this?"......."MMMMmmmm said the manager, yeah, did see something about that" in a rather sheepish "but don't tell anyone" manner!!!

BARGIN, went back a few hours later with parter and he bought one too!!!!

    Happy days!

I suggest you go back to the same store and aske them to pull it up on the computer for you to see......when they are scanned in and they clik on the items on the screen the extras come up too, included in the price.

You can politely suggest to the lady that she is "pushing it considering you pay their wages and are supposed to serve us correctly!!"

I am wondering how you can fit 3 full sized movies onto this as it says on the box. I have downloaded a movie and the file size is just short of 700mb, do you have to compress them somehow?

You'll need to convert the AVI to a resolution thats more suited to the screen on the player.

If you download the software from: http://www.pspvideo9.com
and then follow the guide on http://www.pspvideo9.com/started.html

It will transcode/convert the file to a more appropriate resolution for display on the Genus. This has the side effect of making the file smaller as less data needs to be stored for a lower resolution picture.
They promised the earth...and delivered mud. Technically though it did meet the spec.

Is there a way to remove the time display when playing videos ?

On mine, the time display is always on screen.

    Anyone else noticed this ?

So had they scanned in the MP4 player; leads and leather case together, it still would have come up as £49.99?

I picked one up at the Plympton (Coypool) Curry's I also had to educate the guy about the deal. They were showing 20 in stock by the telephone stock line at Coypool, before I got mine.

It's pretty good, I am not convinced it is USB2, it took 10mins to transfer 1GB of video and audio files across to it. It's a shame you cannot fast forward video, (unless I haven't read the instructions properly), one solution would be to split video file into smaller chunks (e.g. 30MB), almost pagemaking them.

    It's great as a "one-handed video player" !!!

Has anyone here tried the mini Ipod speaker attachment called Podwave, I have read a few reviews, and it would fit the Genus (slightly off-centre). Its a 3.3" long bass tube with a 3.5mm jack plug.
