cleaning vertical blinds

  • To keep your vertical blinds last long, you should know the best way to clean them to prevent any damage.

_remove the bottom chain and plates

_take the blinds off the top hooks

_place them on top of each other as you remove each one

_use cold water and light soap depending on the fabric

    _hang back up to dry

or for dirt and pet hair on vertical blinds, try using a natural enzyme spray found in the pet section of a store. Spray both sides of the blind (if they are not lined) wait a day to let dry then vacuum.
  • If like mine they start looking a bit manky just around the bottoms, like at animal height where cats the constantly mooch around the windows all day. I bring a bucket of warm soapy water to the blinds, open the blinds so they're all slid to one end and then dangle a bunch of slats together in the bucket for a while, giving each slat a bit of a rub by hand.

Afterwards I splash them around in a bucket of clean water to rinse and then let them drip dry into the empty bucket. When the worst of the drips have gone I unfold them, and open the windows to dry out properly. I just do a few at a time as and when I feel like it, so no need to take them all down or have masses of dripping blinds that you don't know what to do with. :D

I did not see this thread before now - I took mine off yesterday and put them through the washing machine at 30 degrees and a short spin, ironed them dry and hung them over a radiator and then put them back together again - obviously I took out all the hardware etc. They look fine!

  • Anyone done this? My kitchen blinds are terrorised by my cat winding in and out of them, I'd really like to freshen them up, any ideas? Thanks :)

  • Try doing a forum search - there was a thread on this not too long ago because I had the same problem as you (only dog, not cat!) and found some very helpful advice

I put mine in the washing machine they do come out slightly crumpled but I hang them back up when they are wet with the windows open and they always end up looking fine.
