I wash in the washing machine inside a pillow case and they always come up lovely.
As for the black mould I would think diluted bleach and boiled water would be the best solution, especially to get the spores rid of. It would strip the colour however which may not be the best idea. Sorry no help at all am I!Credit Card: £796 Left/£900 October 2011 :eek:Store Card: £100 October 2011

Thanks, but they're a whitish colour anyway, I don't mind a lighter shade, it would be cheaper than buying a new set!Be happy, it's the greatest wealth0 -
I had black mouldy stuff on my blinds, washed them, it didn't remove it. So I looked on Ebay for replacement slats. The link below is for replacements slats, its b.o.g.o.f at the moment on these replacements.
I got 12 replacement slats for under £8.00. Just ordered a couple more for spares. Not really OS but M.S.E.

I do not work for this company, just posting the link in case it helps someone.
Some people are not aware you do not need to replace the whole blind, replace just the slats.0 -

Hi, I realise this is an old thread however I just had to search for doing the bathtub on horizontal slatted blinds as er indoors is doing this now.
I wanted to add another tip, get a pair of woollen gloves, dipping them in soapy water then allows you to insert your fingers between the slats to wipe them and a dry pair for afterwards for finishing off.0 -
My daughter's room seems to be damp - the walls in one corner need to be bleached every month or so, and the windowsill is cracked with mouldy stuff. I can clean this off, but the vertical blinds have got really mouldy now, which is spreading to the curtains, and I'm not sure how to clean the the blinds. DH has asthma and he wheezes the minute he goes in her room, or if he sits on her bed (beside said mouldy window.)
We live in a rented house so I don't think we can just take them down and throw them away. Will a good wash and bleach do the trick, or might it harm the blinds?

Are they matireal[sp?] or plastic/metal?
Plastic/metal are fine for being washed down with bleach, but if materal your going to have to test a bit and see if it damages it
and the best place I'v found for cleaning blinds is in the bath.hth
p.s. have you tryed a dehumidifier in her room?£71.93/ £180.000 -
When we had the fabric blinds I used bio logical washing powder on the slats. The I starched them and put them back up. Definatley agree with using a dehumidifier, even one of the crystal tub things from pound shops will help. Just make sure you air the room daily, we leave one window on the trickle vent during the day, that helps a lot over the cooler months. HTH.

Boultdj you are right, the bath was a good place to wash them! I took them down, put them in the bath with a few inches of wwater and some bleach. this didn't do much, but I rubbed a soap bar into them and then lathered them up (with rubber gloves on), which seemed to wash the black mould odd, mostly. So much dirt came off, the bathwater was disgusting!
They needed a good rinse, then I soaked them in bleachy water again overnight. Today they look fine and once they are dry they should go back up nicely. I'm happy it worked, now I won't have to replace the blinds!
Nuttyp, thanks, I didn't think the poundland thingies would do anything, but I'll get one next time and see if it helps

Hi
The bottom of our fabric vertical blinds has a few black spots. Not sure if it is mould? Any suggestions on how to clean?
