I dont have mould on our conservatory blinds but we smoke in there and
they get really yaky.
We put them in the bath overnight with Stardrops, take them out in the morning, hang them on the line to drip and they are perfect (for another couple of months lol)make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
thanks for all the replies. The mould is due to condensation in one room only. All the other blinds in the other rooms are ok. Im going to clean them next month or when we get a day where i can dry them outside as i really dont want to hang them up damp. They are made of a delicate material and when i took one slat down it frayed so ile probably wash them in the bath. My son never opens his window at night when hes asleep and that why theyve gone mouldy. Looks like ile be having words with him lol0

Mine just get shoved in the washing machine any old how
They usually have a few frayed stringy bits along the edges but i cut these off when i iron them flat afterwards and then rehang them. They don`t look quite the same for a couple of days but when they`ve been back up for a short time they look the same as before - only clean
I do need some more now as we have had some of these slats for over ten years so i`ve no idea how many times some of them have been washed.:o
Never had mould on them though so i don`t really know what to suggest, buttefly brains suggestion sounds good though.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
I put my vertical blinds in washing machines... i take out all the weight and roll them up in bunches of about 5 lengths and put elastic band around them... take them out and hang them straight back up they dry really quick i do them every 12 months... wash on delicates0

I painstakingly took mine down, one by one, scrubbed them with a soapy mix, dried them off and hung them back up. Took me the best part of a day, but they looked lovely afterwards.Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs
30lb lost of 30lb by June 2012 :j:j:j (80lb overall goal)0 -
Thanks again, and to mckneff, i wish i could leave the window open during the day, but we are both at work and i live in a ground floor flat. Ile b getting trickle vents fitted when the warmer weather comes. I always have my bedroom window open at night, come rain, hail and snow lol. And ive never had condensation in the room. The mould is due to lack of ventilation as he also forgets to leave his bedroom door open when his window is shut and im usually asleep when he comes home. Its not too bad but as the blinds are white any mark shows up on them and unfortunately hes also a mechanic so theres probably a bit of grease or oil on them too0

I've always put mine in the washing machine on a gentle wash in a pillow case loosely rolled up. For stubborn mould I soak the affected parts in the bath with bleach then rinse gently. You can buy new chains quite cheaply and it makes a huge difference to the look of the blinds.0

i dont take mine down one by one to put them in the bath, they stay on their strings, much easier when rehanging.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

You can just put them in a tub of warm water and add 100ml of washing-up liquid. Dip the blinds several times to loosen grime and let them soak for a few minutes. Use rubber gloves and clean both sides of each slat. Rinse them in a fresh tub of water or just under the shower.
Also, to keep them from attracting dust, when the blinds are completely dry, wipe fabric softener sheets, such as Bounce.0
