Can someone please keep me straight about using bleach in the bath to clean vertical blinds?
Do I use neat bleach (I've just bought 4 big bottles) or a water and bleach solution?
If I should use a water and beach solution, should the water be hot or cold?
How long should I leave them to soak?
Finally, my bath is plastic/acrylic, so it is okay to use bleach in it?
Thank you - I'm a complete novice at this kind of thing!Numpties...I'm surrounded by them...save me...:whistle:0 -
I wash mine in the washing machine. Just make sure you thread something through the top loops to keep them together in order or you will end up in the mess I did with some last year.
I wash rinse and iron straight away and put them back up. Ive washed them half a dozen times now.

Thanks for your reply. The problem is the bottoms of the blinds now have mould on them from where there has been condensation on the glass. I did not realise this until I moved the sofa to wash the floor recently!:o
I am not sure that just washing them will be enough to remove the mould, although putting them in the machine after the bleach sounds like a great idea to get rid of the smell of bleach!Numpties...I'm surrounded by them...save me...:whistle:0 -

you could try soaking the bottoms in some stain remover first or that Oxi stuff which is quite good in a washing up bowl. Id only be concerned that bleach might 'melt' the glued bits or stitching on blinds - dont know never done it though.

The best (only?) thing to do with vertical blinds is throw them away. Horrible 90's throwbacks.0

I wash mine in the bath with warm water and a bit of washing powder. Swill them round the bath for a bit then rinse and hold them up until most of the water has run out. Then I put them straight up and put the weights back in. They dry wavy but after a few hours they are back to being perfectly straight again
I hate wahing the blinds but it's worth it and only takes 20 minutes to have them down, washed and back up. I just wipe the rest of the water up that drips onto the window ledge. I think they dry straighter if they go back up wet.Even if you stumble, you're still moving forward.0 -
Just wanted to say that letting them soak in a solution of thin bleach and water in the bath worked perfectly. Laid each slat loosely in the bath, so that the top and bottom of each slat was under water and did not stick to another blind and left them for a few hours. Then rinsed every slat individually. Didn't need to put them in the washing machine. Hung them back up when wet and they dried straight. All three patio doors now have pristine white blinds again!
Thank you!:beer:Numpties...I'm surrounded by them...save me...:whistle:0 -
I have a white set of vertical blinds and there are black mould damp marks on the bottoms of them and along the plastic chain. They are supposed to be washable but the material is like a kind of vinyl and cotton and as it frays at the ends although they can be machine washed im worried it will ruin them. Has anyone any ideas how to get the black mould off. Ive tried mould remover but as they are white the marks still show. If all else fails and i cant get them clean i will machine wash them in a pillowcase and if i ruin them ile have to buy another set. So other than what ive suggested is there another way of cleaning them?0

My friend has vertical blinds and always machine washes them on 30c.
Treat them first with a solution of tea tree oil and washing up liquid to remove the mould. The downside to washing them is that you can remove the stiffness in the fabric in which case I would use spray starch before hanging them again
HTHBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
