I have tried allsorts to clean ours. In the end I bought new slats which were not too expensive for a new look.
I would suggest a damp sponge and some of the stain devils. Tried on a small area first.

My mum puts hers in the washing machine on a gentle wash in little net bags. Might not the best way but they're looking alright after years of use and a black cat shedding all over them :)

We have a black cat as well and he likes to look out the window, so every so often we have to use those sticky roller things to clean off the hair.

I was thinking about washing them in the bath as suggested previously here as they could do with a wash.

  • Ok.....I have read most of the reviews on how to clean my once was white vertical blinds so I took the plunge, started with the smallest window in my house and used Oxi clean powder that I use in my washing machine ( the one in the pink tub), filled the bath a bit with tepid water just enough to cover slats, put in 2 scoops of powder and mixed well. I haven't washed my blind since I have had them which is (approx 8 years) so the were very discoloured and had mould at the bottom. I had an extension built last year so that might explain why they were filthy. I unhooked them leaving on the top hooks and weights in them and placed them in the bath, I gently rubbed the bottom bits where the weights are with a nail brush and left them to soak, went and cleaned the windows whilst they were soaking, on returning to the bathroom the water was disgusting colour, I lifted the blinds one by one above the bath and showered them off with cold water then placing them in the sink to drain some water off. I placed kitchen towel on the windowcill to catch the drips whilst they dry. I cannot express my sheer joy as to how clean they look, no fraying at all, I'm now having a cuppa whilst another lot in soaking in the bath, I will clean the windows then hang them back up the same way....had to come and share my tip as I was so impressed with the result 💋💋💋
  • I just hand washed a few with stains on in warm water. Left soaking for 30 min then rinsed :rotfl:
  • Anyone please know how to get black mould off the bottom of vertical blinds? Mine are in our conservatory which isn't the best of builds.

Remove the offending blinds and put them in the wash. Or use baby wipes...saves spending a fortune on the people advertising 'cleaning blinds'!

My vertical blinds desperately need a good clean but was advised not to use water on them at all to clean them by the manufacturer. They cost an arm and a leg a few years back and know i cant afford to replace them so i get round it by using the brush attachment on my vacuum cleaner and 'dust' them this way.

However, it is a pain as the hose isnt long enough and i have to put the vacuum cleaner on a step ladder.

    They dont get done often.
