It seems rather unfair that any foreigner or immigrant can just waltz into this country and get a similar wage to someone who has lived and worked here all their life.

No what is unfair is that racists like you judge people by the colour of their skin or the country they originate from, completely disregarding any personal qualities or skills that they may have.

But you know who the real loser is, it's not us, it's you! You lose out on having so many potential friends, colleagues and/or acqaintices just because they do not originate from this country because you are a racist.

Please remind me exactly what did you do to ensure you were born in the UK rather than some much poorer Eastern European or African country?
  • What he doesn't know is that most sensible immigrant dont even think about the benefits.they just want to work, earn and pay theit taxes. I have been in this country for over 6yrs and have never been to a GP or collect any benefit even while I was not working. It just doesnt occur to me to get free money from somewhere,I believe I have to earn it.

What I mean is that the employer should pay the same regardless of whetehr the worker is British or foreign but the foreign worker should RECEIVE less.

This is why you get called racist. If the people have the same skills, same experience, same ethusiasm for the job and are performing at the same level then they should receive the same money.

If you suggested paying gay people less than straight people in the same job, I'd call you homophobic.

If you suggested paying women less than men in the same job, I'd call you sexist.

And... guess what? If you suggest paying people from other countries less than British people in the same job, I'd call you a racist.

Let's not forget, both angles and the saxons came from what is now Germany!

Good point A quick look around the interweb suggests the first immigrants to the UK tunred up around 150 BC. Prior to that it was all Stoneage and Celtic era people.

150 BC significant trade with the continent and thus some immigration
    55BC Romans
    5th century Anglo Saxons
    9th century Vikings
    11th century Normans

And so on and so forth for the rest of English history.

I'm just in the middle of reading Niall Ferguson's book 'Empire'. In it he points out that in the 200 hundred years during which Britain built its empire around the world, more than 20,000,000 people left Britain to begin new lives overseas.

I quote: "For most of these emigrants, [leaving their homeland] spelt liberty - religious freedom in most cases , but above all economic freedom."

To most of the receiving countries and their indiginous population, the new arrivals from England were known as the white plague.

How ironic, then, that little Englanders like dervish see history in such one dimensional terms.

When you finish the book , as I have, then you may be in a better position to judge Ferguson's stance...

Foreigners who work in this country or immigrant workers should have to have a probationary period BEFORE they can earn full wages - I support the view that they should have their own wage and pay structure which is BELOW the standard minimum wage.

ie Froeigners minimum wage could be about £3 an hour. Also they should NOT be entitled to receive and benefits or NHS cover (emergency excepted) until their probabtionary period has elapsed.

This ideas would make perfect sense in the current recession as massive amounts of money would be saved and it would deter economic immigrants from coming here in the first place. BRITAIN IS FULL !!!

It woukd also incentivise British workers as they would be getting more money than their immigrant counterparts and consequently there would be less resentment and hatred towards the foreigners.

we need some politicians to have the bravery to make this happen as it would have the full support of the majority of people,

Just out of interest Derv, have you noticed that over 800 people have currently read this thread and not one has thanked your OP? And this board normally has a real cross section of people. The 'majority of people' are not in agreement with you. The 'majority of people' are concerned about immigration and do see it as a complex issue that needs to be in the public domain and needs to be debated. But there is quite a difference between debating the issues in an intelligent way and just coming up with racist tripe.

I can't be bothered any more, you're a simplistic idiot.

    No, dont think so.

My debate has been over the merits of imigration as a whole. I have never highlighted any differecnes between colours, religions, creeds, etc.

A rich American coming here to take a job is, as far as I am concerned, the same as a poor black woman who got here in a boat. They are both examples of where British people CANT or WONT take jobs - which is wrong.

I am not racist at all.
