What an idiotic idea. Let me give you some insight from the other side. I'm a foreign worker and have been here for the last 3.5 years. I came here as part of an intra-company transfer from North America.
I pay my taxes (a lot of it @ 40%), contribute to the community via volunteering, and help out the general economy. I am very skilled at what I do and had to jump through a lot of government criteria before being allowed to come here. The company I work for (American) did try quite hard to find a "British" employee, but was not able. I also have to earn as a minimum, a certain amount that is almost double the national average in order to be allowed here. Another interesting thing... I pay my taxes just like anybody else, but have no recourse to public funds. That's right, no benefits. I don't know where you guys get the idea that foreigners come in and live off the system.
It gets even better. When I entered this country, expectations were set that after 3 years and 11 months I'd be eligible to settle here permanently. About 2 years into my stay, the rules changed on me, and now the time required has increased to 4 years an 11 months. The home office decided to ignore previously set expectations and just add another year.
Let's talk about finances. I have no debts and have saved more than most people who were born here (mainly by living in fear that I may be kicked out at any point). I have the financial discipline and work ethic to build a solid foundation. I can't wait to get past my 5 year requirement and finally settle down. I dare not buy a house right now because if I lose my job, I have to go back to North America within 28 days. Oh... and I'm tied to one employer for the whole time unless another one can sponsor me.
It is not easy being foreign. The U.K. has not treated me particularly fairly, yet I cannot wait to be able to buy a house, settle down, and contribute as much as I can back to the community.
Before you go insulting us with your stupid ideas, try to look at things realistically. I can tell you with complete certainty that I work harder and contribute more to society than the chavs I see patrolling my high street.0 -
Yeah its another !!!!!! racist idea from the brain of dervish.
Whos surprised by this.
Ive rpeorted it to abuse as im kinda getting !!!!ed off with this attitude. If you dont like it up sticks go somewhere else - after all if you areUK you can go anywhere in the EU that is the beauty.
Id love to know how you think treating someone differently due to thier ethnicity in a working environment would make this county a better place - after all its a bloody good job this isnt an option in nursing, doctors, social workers, teaching, where we absolutely rely on foreign workers to educate and care for us all. Do you want 2 tier care for the young/infirm/disabled?
Your an idiot, asnd your going on ignore. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
If I remember rightly the conservatives oppose the EU Social Chapter, which includes minimum wage, holidays as a right not a privilege and host of other things. I understand they still want to opt out - which in IMO would be bad for workers and good for employers who want to cut back on wages, holidays etc.
Infact Chris Chope a Conservative MP put forward a private members bill last month to make the minimum wage negotiable, it won't get through. But I suppose the intent is there.
IMHO, everyone who is legally entitled to work in the UK is entitled to the minimum wage, while we still have it.0 -
Why does anyone bother responding to Dervish. All he does is make inflammatory posts, with zero interest in discussing them.
All he does here is sprout "the great British empire still lives and I want a job in the colonial service somewhere" crap. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a BNP member.
Do not feed the troll.0 -
It seems rather unfair that any foreigner or immigrant can just waltz into this country and get a similar wage to someone who has lived and worked here all their life.
Foreigners who work in this country or immigrant workers should have to have a probationary period BEFORE they can earn full wages - I support the view that they should have their own wage and pay structure which is BELOW the standard minimum wage.
ie Froeigners minimum wage could be about £3 an hour. Also they should NOT be entitled to receive and benefits or NHS cover (emergency excepted) until their probabtionary period has elapsed.
This ideas would make perfect sense in the current recession as massive amounts of money would be saved and it would deter economic immigrants from coming here in the first place. BRITAIN IS FULL !!!
It woukd also incentivise British workers as they would be getting more money than their immigrant counterparts and consequently there would be less resentment and hatred towards the foreigners.
we need some politicians to have the bravery to make this happen as it would have the full support of the majority of people,
We used to pay our Polish workers the same rate as the British Workers. However, they did earn more money as they got through more work as they came in early and stayed late. They were brilliant and had a great work ethic. They also left a good job. TBH if we had work we would still have them as subcontractors. I would pay the same again as the quality of the work they left was to a very high standard.0 -
Ok firstly, it would (and should) NEVER be allowed.
secondly, how come dervish still hasnt been banned for all these racist threads?0 -
Why when people post on threads like this, they do so without getting facts straight...As an immigrant to this country, I DID have to prove I had enough funds to support myself, I DID have to prove I had a bank account and funds back home if required. I have NEVER received one penny from the UK government in benefits or handouts, or housing etc. I PAY taxes as required. It is NOT easy, as some would lead others to beleive, to be admitted into the UK, reside, work and then settle. There is a long, expensive process that has to be got through. Im from an English speaking, Commonwealth country (NZ) and it was no different for me as it was for a relatives partner from Turkey, to go through the process. I have been here over 7 years now and I still feel guilty for living a life over here. Threads like this, that bring out the bitter and twisted posts like the OP has posted, dont help any.'Normal' is a dryer setting.0

Inside the mind of Dervish:

I am saddened that a few people feel they need to hurl personal abuse my way instead of debating the points.

Anyway here is an interesting article about Australia's new idea about foreign workers:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereporters/nickbryant/
Many would argue we shoudl do the same.0 -
What Australia did was put out a list of people that it wanted to come to the country as it had a skills shortage. It's now saying that the conditions have changed and therefore we still need these people but not these. Fair enough.
What you proposed is changing the wage structure for immigrants. I don't see how the two things can be compared tbh. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
