Hi I stopped smoking on 1st November, I was going to quit as a new years resolution but i thought why wait!
Anyhoos, if i can do it anyone can, i relied so heavily on them darn things, first thing in morning till last thing at nite, i planned everything around em, even going out my hubs is a non smoker and i hated going out for a meal with him coz he made me sit in the non smoking section!!
Anyways its been nearly 4 months now, i used the patches and they did itch for a whle but you get used to it.
We are saving over 30.00 a week my me not smoking, probably more as i was drawing a tenner out to buy 20 fags and just wasting the other fiver!
Keep it up, will be the best thing you have ever done.
I wish you loads of luck :j :j :j
p.s since given up smoking i dont drink alcohol anymore for fear of wanting a ciggie so have saved money there aswell!! also cannot stand the taste of tea anymore so have had to switch to coffee - bizarre! :rotfl:Accept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue.A hug is a great gift - one size fits all and its easy to exchange

Hello!! I've given up smoking and it will be just two weeks this weekend that I last had a ciggie!!! :j it is hard as I also work in a pub  BUT I've done it!!! i just went cold turkey, and also faced my fear in that i went straight out to all the situations where I used to always smoke and the fact that I did them without smoking was really good and made me think why'd i think it'd be so hard!!! that's just me though. I always used to have a ciggie when I was drinking  and now after two weeks I'm not that bothered! Friday lunchtime is ritual for a drink in the pub and I went today and was fine!! Even said no when I was offered one and that felt really good! :T
MIND OVER MATTER!!!! :T

I've set tomorrow as my new quit day. I've only smoked 10 in the last two days which is a vast improvement, but I'd rather stop altogether!
I'll post tomorrow with the verdict.......Quit smoking 18/08/070 -

Good on you Nickynoo1!!!!! I've got my eye on a handbag but it is £60 (i know, i know but it is amazing!) now as I'm trying to get out of debt then I can't have it. However I've decided that if I can save my ciggie money then its mine and after that all the funds go into the savings to trash the loan. Try and think of something you want and maybe that will help.
Sunday worked for me before as you have more freedom to decide how you want to beat the cravings and if it comes to it go back to bed and sleep the misery off!! Good luck and pm me if you're going mental....Quit smoking 18/08/070 -
Hi there,
I quit smoking on 3.12.05. I was spending about £30 a week. I did it with the patches kind of. What I did was I spent 2 weeks on them paying for them myself, when I had a doctors appointment I mentioned it to him and he passed me onto the practise nurse who agreed to give me them on perscription providing I visited her for so many weeks. It worked well as I had that support there and I felt I had to do it as I was seeing someone offical.
What I possibly did wrong, I don't think it was wrong for me but it perhaps was for others is that I stopped using the patches, but I am still not smoking. I found the patches useful because they helped me with the cravings so I could get out of the routine of smoking. I realised all the times and places I was smoking and it was the mental side of things that I found hard to combat, like for instances once or twice I went to buy some cigs automatically without realising it was habbit LOL. But since getting over the habbit and mental side of it I can cope with the cravings, I still have them even though I have no desire to start smoking again, but I do enjoy standing at the bus stop and breathing deeply when someones smoking LOL
Good luck!0 -

Thanks thats an inspiring post you're over two months in! When I stop smoking my other money spending will go down as I won't be buying as many mags, sweets etc in the shops when I'm getting them!Quit smoking 18/08/070 -

I quit 03/06/05 with hypnose. Best £45 I have ever spent.
Have not touched one since.
For a week I used gums (about 1 a day) then decided it tasted bad and never used them again.
I was on nearly 30 a day (packet £5).
The hypnose acted a bit as a "reset button"; when I usually would have just light-up; I then used to look at it as a choice (I can decide not to have one). Every day was taking the right choice (not falling into the habit anymore).
Good luckMFW on your mark0
