The only problem is my waxing lady doesn't do Brazilian's, and I'm really wanting to try one - the effects of shaving don't last even 24hrs before things start to get bumpy and sore!!!! Are Brazilian's much more painful? Are the results as good? I know they use different wax to the leg waxing stuff, and am a bit confused about how it all works :D

Lots of places don't offer a Brazilian wax as the therapist needs to be specially trained. Do a bit of a Google serch to see who in your area does them. Brazilian is quite painful, especially the first one, but it depends on your pain threshold and the results are completely worth it in my opinion- and you only need to go back every month or so. Not cheap, but hassle free. They use wax and a wooden spatula for the bikini area, with cloth strips. You wear paper knickers which the therapist moves around and asks you to hold and stretch your skin. So you're not too bare, and plus, she'll have seen it all before. Takes about 30 mins at most.

I was given a home laser kit for Christmas (ahem, I did ask for one - it wasn't a hint :o ) and although it takes ages, it does seem to be working and should be permanent (so moneysaving in the long run although the initial outlay is high).

The brand is Rio, I think it came from Argos - you basically "zap" a tiny area with a scaning laser, which heats up the melanine in the hair and kills off the hair root. It takes a while because you can only do a tiny area at a time (and it takes about 30 secs to scan each time) but the effect is permenant because you kill the hair. It falls out after a week or so. It works best on dark hair on fair skin - I have very pale skin and have found it's worked completely on the ol' facial moustace, under arms and the bikini line (caution needed in positioning :o ) although I can't get rid of white hairs on my chin annoyingly (no melanine!) or the dark line down my tum which arrived after pregnancy - those ones keep growing back, grrr.

I've never had a wax before and would like to go for a bikini wax ready for when I go on holiday. The only thing putting me off is the embarrassment factor as it seems a bit too close for comfort to me! So what exactly is involved in a wax?

Pretty much as described in post 22....don't be embarrased.....I do this day in day out....honestly, I don't think a thing of it....the only time it's really a problem and embarrasing all round is when a client wants this done, then clenches her knees tightly together. It's embarrassing for us both then....do I say...open your legs? or prise them open? Not good! It's like going to the dentist.......you open your mouth as wide as it can go hoping the better he can see, the less likely he'll be to hurt you IYKWIM !:rotfl:

I have had professional waxing on and off for many years and always suffered horribly with ingrown hairs. Boots sell a gel that works OK, but you have to use it daily which is a no-no if you are on holiday/ using a sunbed as you may get a rash.

Last summer I bought an epilator, having been told by beauticians I would have worse problems. Not so! It's less painful (probably because no skin and less hair is being removed), quicker and I rarely have ingrown hairs now. The epilator has a cooling/ soothing attachment but I don't bother.

I admit the first time with my armpits I was in a lot of discomfort - to be fair I bled the first and only time I waxed them - but I stuck with it and it's fine if I top up weekly. I bought an epilator with a shaver attachment so I can trim the bikini area I don't epilate. Very very convenient and very MSE cos I bought it half price! :T

Having said all that I'd probably recommend waxing first as a one off, then topping up thereafter with an epilator as you already have the shape done. Plus it'll only be regrowth to do yourself, you ease into DIY gently!

Oh I don't get embarrassed, if you're a woman, you are used to such things when you go to the doctors really over the years. And as you say, you have seen it all before. :D
