Hethmar gave me a link to poodlesinneed and I've gone on their forum today - they are so lovely and helpful.

I've not been restricting myself to poodles. I did have a deliciously nutty one called Fred for many years - and he was the best. So I am partial to them - as I am too to Old Englishes, but one of those would be too big for work....

I love Labradoodles - and there is a breeder near me.... and they've got some chocolate ones... but, too big again.

I feel positive about feedback that I have got today - and I am to make some phone calls tomorrow. I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks for the help - may have something to fill that gaping hole soon! Take away the ache that seems to be always there.

    Cheers guys and gals

Plenty of labradoodles in rescues. Yet another fashion that is providing more unwanted dogs.

I rang poodles in need today - lovely people, but they don't have any at the moment ready to home. I've left my phone number with them.

Hethmar, I don't wish to doubt you, but can't believe that there are labradoodles that need homes.... they are so gorgeous. but then alot of them are Lab size, which would be too big for me.

I'm not going to give up now that I have this opportunity to have a dog! The last three years have been weird. I am no spring chicken, and this is the longest period in my life that I haven't had a dog or two.

I've tried for 3 dogs over the last few days and missed out on all of them, but I will persist! I know my 'requirements' could be hard to meet, but I refuse to give up!!

Thanks to everyone for being so helpful.

Genie, good luck. You know what it is you are looking for in a dog so stick to your guns and hold out for the dog for you.It may well take time but surely everything worth having is worth a wait :D

Oh Jeanie, there are every type of dogs in rescues - 8000 dogs a year are put down who are just strays that arent collected in council pounds. For labradoodle rescue - heres a few needing homes:

    Thanks Suki and Hethmar!

Still nothing - but then I am limited during the week to searching in the evenings - and many of the phone numbers are only available during the day!

Nothing in my life is simple - its taken me years to get round my bosses - and I can't find one that 'fits the bill'!! Well I have found some but they have all been gone before I had a chance....... nice to know that they have all been homed tho.

I'm not after a 'freebie' - just need a love that isn't very big and is house trained - work requirements!

I've leant towards poodles as I have had one before, plus grew up with Airedales (too big and stubborn beggars!) and my wonderful Old Englishes - too big again, but adorable and funny. Fred the poodle (black miniature) was a great character - he was deliberately cut and groomed scruffy as it suited him! I'd love another like him.

    I ramble........... I'll keep looking....

    Thanks guys and dolls.

My eyes are sore - and my heart is heavy after looking at those labradoodles - who sadly are too big for my current situation - (intend to buy a lottery ticket tomorrow, so it could change....).

Dont rush - the right dog will come along. It took me about 8 months to find our Diggs. I wanted a dog which would fit in with Ralph who is disabled and I was prepared to wait it out. Diggs is perfect.

Have you looked on Many Tears? Most of the dogs are ex breeding, but not all have big probs. There is a partially sighted poodle there and also two very pretty Bichons -

Brittany is slightly quieter than Bertha but only slightly. She will stop for half an hour to nap on the sofa or find a cuddle either from me or the dogs in her foster home. She does seem to need to know that her Bertha is somewhere close by before she naps though. She is as pretty as a picture and I for one am very proud to be seen walking her, which, incidentally she does extremely well. She understands walking on a lead and is very keen to get out there and see the world. Brittany is almost there with her house training and knows to ask at the back door if there is not too much going on for her. If there is she may forget but not often. She sleeps through the night with no trouble at all. To sum Brittany up she is everything anyone could ever wish for in a dog.
