Genie, if you have a specific breed in mind, try the breed rescues or even the breed clubs themselves. Many many pups are returned to breeders because the new owners find they didnt realise what they were letting themselves in for and also breeders often have older pups that they were running on in the hope they had a show dog in the making.

I too would advise keeping well away from the free ads. Two reasons, one - full of scammers and two - many people are not too truthful about the reasons for giving up their pup/dog. You could end up with an animal that has a chronic medical problem which will cost you a fortune. If you do want to think about a rescue then please go through a reputable rescue centre, for peace of mind
Hi Suki - this makes a change from mineral make up and skin problems!

I was offered a Toy poodle a couple of weeks back, 16 weeks old, silver, and had his vax and was housetrained and I fell for him, tho he'd been cut a bit 'gay' like - I knew I could make a boy out of him!! I'd had a miniature before, Fred (star of many photos), plus also Josie, an Old English. Both thoroughly spoilt and the pain I've had since losing them has never really left me.

Now 3 years later, I got offered 'Jim' as I'd already named him in my head, and then through lord knows what reasons, he was suddenly not up for sale - its a really long story that I won't bore you with. The frustrating thing is that my bosses caved in and said that I could take him to work with me - he wasn't big, and he wasn't 'yappy'!! But then, no Jim...

So now that they have caved in... I'm looking for another Jim or Jimesse!!

Through my various searches, I did find an Old Engllish near me needing a home.......... but the love would need alot more space than my office allows! But as I've had Old Englishes before, was very tempted, I adore them, but can't sadly give the mite a home. (Unless I've won the lottery)..

My search goes on. Hethmar sent me a pm link - but can't access it!! Very frustrating.

I've not been able to locate a poodle rescue that actually has any. But then I've not been online all day til now... had to wash car and do gardening stuff etc!

Appreciate all the help guys and gals.. It would be great to fill that hole thats gaping!

That's ageism so that is :rotfl: They do get some under 7 too in fairness but even at 7 they still have many a good year in them and 99.9% of the time they're very well trained and definitely house trained :) A huge bonus if you like most don't have the time to go through housetraining a puppy and want a dog you can take to work straight away :)

Asolutely agree with you :) We took on one of ours at the age of 12 - wonderful boy, we had 4 very happy years with him and it broke our hearts when he went. But I sensed from the Ops postings she was looking for a pup or a dog up to 2 years.

If it's a Poodle you want persevere, they'll get them at some point! Dogpages probably have some but they could be anywhere in the country so idk? The right Dog is out there somewhere!

Apart from poodles in distress which I pmd, How far would you be willing to travel? Although a lot of these rescue numbers will actually not have any dogs themselves but will have a list of dogs needing placing all over the country and probably still in their own homes or fostered

This girl needs house training? Foal Farm, Kent

    http://www.foalfarm.org.uk/dogs/list_dogs/page:2

This cute little lady was brought to Foal for re-homing because she was submissive wetting in the home. Mitsy would make a great pet for a calm disciplined family who have the time and enthusiasm for training classes.
    Who can I live with?
    Dogs: Yes
    Cats: To be assessed
    Children: Yes but see below

Oh love her - but not sure bosses would be happy with the puddles etc....

If I get the lottery up (as mentioned before) I'd have all the time that this poor mite needed.

many tears often have ex stud/breeding dogs but again, they will need a lot of care and training to get them used to the real world.

Id try that one at poodles in distress and also the other phone numbers above.

PS, the link didnt work Im afraid

I'm trying to register with poodles in need and not getting very far, but I am trying - everyone tells me I'm trying...... :D

Are you talking about my link?

I thought it may not - its a link to our family website and has quite a few of the dogs on it.. Eldest son runs it and may block it to outsiders for obvious reasons., but thought the clips may work, shame. You'd laugh!

  • Are you just looking at poodles or are you flexible on breed? - maybe a yorkshire terrier or x would be suitable, they tend to be not too bad allergy wise, and they are quite often available in rescue..
