Which two? There have been numerous sub-arguments running through this thread, mostly MercilessKiller against everyone elseWhat goes around - comes around0 -
The "how" in the OP was answered. We've been discussing the "why" which is related. If anything it's turned a rather basic OP into quite an interesting discussion."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0

Just on the point of IP blocking lets say,
A forum blocks a users IP, Errrr whats the law say about this, I mean
can a website administrator use an IP against a single user who may of paid
for a static IP, Ok I do understand the rights of both parties.
But is it 100% legal to do so, I mean stop or dilute a users browsing experience?0 -

No, what you continually suggested was that only those who wanted to be naughty would want to hide their IP address, which has been manifestly demonstrated to be untrue. There are many more reasons than naughtiness.
Apart from that, my comment was tongue in cheek, and I apologise if it caused offence. What goes around - comes around0 -
Well i'm backing down from this converstaion now. I've made my opinion clear on ip masking.
No-one has argued that it isn't like covering urself up completely in public to hide who you are... so as long as that stays unique then i'm happy
I've accepted its a good idea for testing but condemned the use for a long term solution to a networking problem. This isn't a good idea.
Thank you for your apology.

Good move guys. Let's put this one to bed. Would I be wrong in suggesting that were there is an ongoing discussion 'interesting as this has been', but somewhat off the OP's question, that we all agree at some point, say after the 3rd discussion post, that we move it over to the moneysaversarms?Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.

There is no comeback for a website blocking an IP address at all - especially if you consider cross-border issues. The only caveat IMO might be with a subscription-based service but even then you might still have difficulities proceeding with legal action.
IP blocks are often a simple layer which to someone motivated is extremely simply to circumvent in an open network like the internet. Closed networks, like business networks, have finite entry and exit points thus giving total control.
Think of it akin to someone blocking your home phone calling them. What do you do - stop, or go to a phone box?In the United Kingdom 200,000 people are bitten by dogs every year and some people will die as a result. Of those bitten, 70% are children... So the question has to be asked....... Has the time come to ban children?0
