  • if you have a dynamic ip address, then your ISP will keep tables on what IP you had at what time. the ONLY reason this is done is so that if an ip is on an illegal site it can be traced....

    Don't be paranoid.

If it changes its dynamic. You dont need to change it if ur ip is banned from a forum or such.

Ok thanks MercilessKiller, mine changes so its a dynamic address.

IP's imo should not be messed with. If your given an address, you dont change it. If your given a phone number you don't change it (unless your been harrased or buy a new phone). If you're given an IP address, you shouldnt have to manually change it!

as Ive said there are many legitmate reasons why someone would want to either change their IP address or use a proxy.
  • Maybe... but you haven't listed one of them and we've been arguing for over a page now... so they can't be that big of a reason!

if there is a reason you need to change IP, speak to your ISP. If its a legitimate reason they will understand.

If you want to be naughty go ahead and use masking. I'm not saying DONT USE IT.. im saying, asking on a forum on how to implies someone is doing something they shouldnt :)

    reasons why you might:

    privacy
    political
    research
    competitor monitoring
    ip became blocked wrongly
  • Political: Thing this is a little deep for the average joe on this forum don't you?
Privacy: what from? Legal websites? Why you need privacy from these legal websites? There aren't security risks!

Research: Ok research and testing fine, but surely you're going to know about them if you do research in them

Competitor Monitoring: Using a home internet connection/dynamic ip address has the same function then if you dont want competitors getting ur companies static IP.

IP Became blocked wrongly: Email the owners and tell them. If they find you bypassed it its worse for you.

if you don't value privacy then you'll gladly part with your email address on here.
  • I have my msn address/email address happily in my profile for you to view. Why you may ask? I have many addressed. Some private, some public. If you want privacy create a new address for everything that isnt importnat/life related.

    Sorted.

let me just post that on the daily draw and a few others. :rotfl:

as I said people have a need for privacy for many different reasons. I use anonymous proxies when the need arises. Privacy is a right.
