Hi the bailiff called at 8am this morning. My £200 debt has now jumped to £400. he wants it all by friday. He wouldnt give me a breakdown and said he'd go through it on friday. he also said that of the other £700 odd that I owe he wants to go through my incomings and outgoings to set up a re-payment plan.
luckyly hubbies wages have recently gone up so can pay the £400, and will just ask to settle the £700 odd wit 2 payments over 2 months.
but £200 in charges?! :eek:0 -

HE is not allowed to charge you £200. he can charge 24.40 for a first visit and £19.50 for the second vist. NO MOREunless you let him in the house.
Which is why he wants to do the income and expenditire, because that way he can "do a levy".
!!!!!! please pm Herbie21 and she will give you a letter to send immediately to the bailiffs office.
You are being fleeced. Will be back with herbies web-site as well.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

To be fair to Roseendales (god I can't believe I just wrote that ) part of the problem with this kind of thing is that they obviously can only process debts as they are given them by the councils. If your council obtain LOs for various years of unpaid ctax in an odd order for some reason then that is how they'll be given to the bailiffs to act upon.
Or have I misunderstood?If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
As RAS says, they're trying to get a levy prior to giving you a breakdown of costs so they can legally charge the costs they think they are going to charge you.
Actually even then £200 sounds a bit steep for 1st + 2nd visits plus levy; that sounds more like all that plus a van fee. I'd definitely be asking the council for an explanation of their agent's fees.If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
I'm not going through my income and expenditure with him. I'm not signing anything. he aint coming in my house and i'll tell him i'll pay the rest by the end of april. best just to get it sorted. once i've had the breakdown of costs i'll post the breakdown on here and see if theres any chance of claiming it back. but my partner is adament he's notpaying any charges
i feel really rubbish. I just hope my partners wages are correct on friday.0 -

Tell him you have taken advice from Sheila http://www.bailiffadviceonline.co.uk/ and are paying £234 plus the visit charges and that you will not pay any other fee until he has provided the breakdown of charges.
You must stop dealing with this bloke verbally.
it is essential that you write to his company, first class registered post and demand a breakdown of charges as you believe they are illegal. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
PLEASE follow the advice you have been given - and your OH will have to bite the bullet and pay the fee's the bailiff can LEGALLY charge - but with Herbie21 and RobertMuir's help you can make sure that you don't get taken for a ride - You have rights and I really don't see why on earth you want to pay him the £400 odd until he has given you a full breakdown of charges?
This is what Herbie21 deals with all the time and RobertMuir as his signature states used to be a bailiff who's now turned to the light side from the dark side and he DOES know what he's on about...

Even better, can you also get hold of your local councillor and tell him you are being charged illegal fees and whilst you are happy to pay the CT and the fees, you do not think it is right that you have been put in this sitaution by your local council. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

do u think that the fees could relate to the other reference number aswell? you know, 2 refs so 2 sets of charges?0
