Wow dooley - treble pay would be nice, but I think that would put more pressure on businesses as well - and make them look harder for reasons to refuse to employ women of child bearing years.

That's what the paper was saying too, less chance of promotion & job opportunities for women of child bearing age! But i can dream :D

My DH keeps attempting to offer to stay off the alcohol too but all these special occassions keep appearing which means it needs to be put off alittle longer :rotfl: Bless him

dooleys - that's why I think the non-alcoholic beer is nice. We can still serve beer or wine to friends, and he can pour an NA beer into a glass and they're none the wiser.

Sami - we didn't tell anyone when we were in labour with DS, and it worked fine. Family waited a bit to visit. I will admit, however, we lived further away from family then. So it'll be interesting to see what happens this time. DH's family is very close though, and throughout the pregnancy when they visit, they've all been "oh no, you sit down, we'll get the tea" so they're not like my family that show up and expect you to wait on them, even if you've just gotten out of hospital. Of course, if you have family members that are offended if you haven't called them when you're in labour, that gets a bit sticky, I suppose. Is that an issue?
even if it is its their issue :p I'm not bothered really, It's me who is giving birth to mine and OH's baby so as far as I'm concerned its up to us how/when we choose to tell people :D

    Morning everyone!

Well, thanks to you lot, i've just spent about £30 on a quarter of . co.uk - but that includes mothers day present for mum and a little birthday present for OH - he loves the sour fizzy ones that make your teeth hurt!!

It'd be great if the mat.pay increase happened - I might even consider another one. ;) .

Letting people know you're in labour - For some unknown reason, OH phoned MIL (at 2.30am) to tell her we were going to hospital. When we got there, she met us in the car park!! Then, got ushered into the room with us - i sent them both into the adjoining toilet while i got examined.
Eventually, between contractions I had to ask OH to ask her to wait outside as I couldn't concentrate with her sitting with a perfect view of where the baby was about to come from!
(She did say afterwards that she didn't realise it was the delivery room we were being ushered into - and that she didn't want to be there but felt daft leaving the room before being asked to).

Which of you due or late mums were saying (a very long time ago) your baby would turn up on Friday 13th? Was if MFD? If so, maybe she was right!
(Or by now, she could be sitting in hospital cuddling her new little bundle).

DD1 was born on Thursday 12th - but only just. It was 10 to midnight, and the midwife said if i don't push really hard with the next contraction, my baby will be born on Friday 13th. It must have been exactly what I needed as she came out on the next push, with arrival time of 11.56!

And finally, tidy houses! My mum is/was a lazy bu g g er, their house is pretty much tidy, but dirty! So they tidy up, but don't properly clean so the kitchen cupboards are minging, cupboard under the stairs is close to bursting - as thats where everything goes when they tidy!

So I think thats now why i'm a little bit OCD. My kitchen cupboards are sparkling - inside and out, and my tins/packets are all in strict order  .

Does this mean that my children are going to be messy ones, in rebelion for my cleanliness? (DD1 is looking that way - her bedroom is disgusting but i'm trying my best to ignore it, hoping she'll notice at some point soon.)

Hugs and/or labour vibes to everyone who needs them.

I suppose on that maternity pay issue, there are 2 sides. I can see the point, as let's face it, expenses do continue and for those living close to the edge, it seems a bit unfair that the only people that can afford to take the time off work to have a baby are those that are wealthy, or those that are completely broke, and those that are working hard in the middle may feel that can't afford a family, which doesn't quite seem right. Babies shouldn't only be for the wealthy, eh? But I can see that it is going to be a hit for businesses as well. It's going to make it so hard on young women to find jobs or get promotions as employers are going to want to avoid the whole thing.

And I do get irritated at those who have no children going on and on about "oh my taxes pay for your kids" and "I don't need your children's future earnings to cover my retirement pay" and "why would you contribute to the overpopulation of the UK" nonsense. But the overpopulation issue is more of an EU/immigration thing than a massive upswing in babies, is it not? And a healthy level of babies coming up IS good for the economy, as it keeps things on an even keel in later years. Or at least that was my understanding of it.

3onitsway - DD's room is moderate. I've always told her I don't mind if it's a bit messy or cluttered, but I do NOT want it to be a health hazard or breeding ground for bugs, rodents and such. She's pretty good about it to that level.

You childhood home sounds like my house now :D I don't know why my mum still goes on about it I mean my bedroom was a complete pigsty for my entire life, why does she still seem surprised that I'm untidy?
I'm a weird tho I have a ouch of the OCD and have to have certain things in a certain way I hoover pretty much everyday and wash my hands a bit too much but I haven't cleaned my windows for about a year!:o

I will me giving my mum strict instructions to not let anyone know that I'm in labour. I want to tell people in my own time this time (plus I want to make sure everyone is aware that they can't come and visit us for at least a week probably 2!!

My bedroom was too!! It was disgusting, I mean proper filthy. Which is why it is odd that I like things tidy now. My mum always used to say god help me when I have my own place...well I had my own flat at 15 and kept that fairly tidy too:) Dh does have OCD, but is much better now he is on medication for it. He could barely bring himself to turn on a light switch without having to wash his hands afterwards, his poor hands were so chapped and red all the time from the constant washing:eek:. And things had to be in certain places, if they got moved he would freak out big time...Maybe that's why I became tidier, so he would be a bit calmer:confused:

Hi Triggles - how old is your DD?

Mine is 8 1/2 and seems to be enjoying a 'minging' stage. Her room is a mess - but not a health hazard (i hope) - theres no food/cups etc up there, but theres not a lot of visible floor! I ironed yesterday, and ended up with 12 odd socks - i'm assuming there partners are somewhere in her room.

I need to get her to be tidier - as if we haven't moved house, the baby will eventually be sharing with her.

She's also reluctant to have a bath/shower at the moment. Why? - because she wants to be a smelly teenager!

3onitsway - yep I fear you will one day be as my mum is now, distugsted at the state of your DD's home :rotfl:

MFD popped on last night to say she'd had 2 thingys put in but nothing doing so its quite possible she'll get a fri 13th baby.

oh and my OH and MIL know that I most deff don't want anyone other than OH, MW and poss my mum at the hosp with me!!
My MIL knows me quite well now and frankly the likely hood that she would be at work/asleep is quite high coz she works shifts as she's a policewoman :D
