  • Hi Diva,

Try this thread that has lots of ideas for using ham shanks (also known as ham hocks) ham hock and pig hock bargain food!

Thank you so much Pink - I was hoping there might be a thread around on it. You are, as ever, very helpful!

HOCKEY - I just don't get why banks are so stunningly unhelpful
MRSTITTLEMOUSE - wow that milk is cheap!!
SYBIL - I kinda knew where you were coming from with that last paragraph about the casserole. Sounds lush!
DIVA - those Ham Shanks sound tasty and very good value. Hope you manage to catch up on some more sleep before the home help arrives.

Instead of working I've spent the last couple of hours taking pictures of stuff to put on ebay and figuring out how my parent's unwanted food steamer works. I'll be trying to cook rice in it later to see if it's cheaper to cook it in there than on the gas hob. Will be keeping track of electricity and gas readings on a daily basis (except of course I forgot this morning - )

Very OS lunch in the slow cooker today - 100g of leftover stewing steak, an onion, a carrot, the green end off a bit of broccoli, a wrinkly yellow pepper, two old wrinkly potatoes, a handful of dried fruit (minus the dried lemon and lime peel) plus some stock and two good heaped tsps of cajun spice.

It has no name and might not work, but I'm game. Otherwise it's sausages on the george forman, steamed veg and potatoes plus treacle sponge pudding (4 minutes on the microwave).

Always wise to have a back up with my experimental cooking :D

Good luck with the job interview.

Sounds like little bear is fighting fit!!!;)

Managed to leave the house early enough to catch the person who sells eggs at the weekly market. Got two dozen free range eggs!

Also got some veg from the market which is cheaper than the supermarket and looks nicer.

Two washing machine loads are on the line outside and DH is really pleased with the home made pea soup I made this morning - he says its delicious!!!:o

Making chicken curry for most of us for tonight but making DD a sweet potato burger with salad as she turns up her nose at soup or curry.

I have some lentil pate left so might shape that into a burger shape as well and add it to her salad - she is always hungry when she gets home.

Popped into local charity shop and treated myself to a new F and F handbag (obviously never used) for the lavish price of a pound!

Hugs to everybody and Hello to KE7285 and anyone else new to the thread :hello:

  • WELL...

OH's bank could not have been more obliging. We were in and out within 30mins with account fully opened and sortcodes and ac numbers in our hands. The advisor was super helpful and flew through the application on the computer, all we had to do was sign on the dotted line and let her photocopy my passport and last bank statement:T OH was looking forward to telling my bank where to stick it:eek: Lol

Diva, you have me in the mood for a ham hock! Might try and get one tomorrow when we do the food shop.

  • Well I typed up a post this morning in notepad to paste and copy here. Thought I had and closed out notepad, not saving it of course. I forgot to post it. :o

Not a bad day here today with sun on and off and not as cold. Breezy as usual here though.

I'm looking up a recipe for yorkshire pudding as I've never made it. So hoping it will turn out ok as I'm planning on LO roast beef and veg in gravy over them.

Thanks for the get well wishes for our DD. I'll be talking with her this evening, hopefully from her home.

Off to find the recipe now and get tea started. Have a good rest of the day all.

    Peyton xx

    Hello everyone

I have a guest for the weekend - my friend and her OH are away to Spain for the weekend and so their kitten Izzy is staying with me. My little Mitzi has found a hole on the underside of the sofa and is currently inside the sofa in a panic because there's a new kitty about. Teddy & Dylan are staking out the doors into the sitting room where Izzy is. How can four little kitties create such bedlam?!?!

I am wrecked, I've been doing some hardcore cleaning today, though the place doesn't look like I've as much as tickled it.

That's an excellent find at the charity shop Elona.

After a drizzly start it's a lovely spring day today - I even have washing out on the line. Shame it's in my north facing garden, but you never know, it might get dried.

Sorry I'm pooped and can't remember what everyone said. Hope everyone is OK.

    Snowy

    Hi Peyton :hello:

Make sure your oil is very, very hot before pouring in the batter. Mine almost smokes when pre-heated it in the oven, and it makes great yorkshires.
