  • Just popped in to say good morning.
I'm not sure what today is going to be like as one minute it's sunny and bright and the next it turns dull and grey.Still it is'nt cold and that's what matters.
I feel it has been such a long cold winter, these milder days are so lovely.
I have to visit the fruit shop at the end of my street today. He sells local farm eggs, huge free range ones for £1.25 a dozen and four pints of milk is 95p.So not only does this save me a fortune but as I don't go to the supermarket more than once a week I don't get tempted to buy bits I don't need.
Don't have a clue what I'm doing for dinner this evening.
Moggins best of luck on the job front.
To everyone else have a good day and (((Hugs))) to all that need them.
    Take care.......

    Moggins - Good luck!!!

Little bear, when put to his room for a much needed nap, found a box, turned it upside down, stood on it, disconnected the cd player he sometimes gets music on, disconnected the monitor and when I went upstairs he was standing on the cd player as if it was the best thing in the world ever! It took me ages to manoeuvre him far away from the stairgate for me to get in, dislodge him from the cd player, tell him off (and what effect to you think that had ) and get him onto the changing mat. Half way through the very loud nappy the postman rings...

Still some more parcels due so red van man may come.

About to go off and start first casserole. I usually use cooking bacon but using defrosted sandwich bacon, all chopped up and put in the slow cooker with leeks and barley and plenty of sage - very Anglo Saxon! The vegetable stock cube is probably less Anglo Saxon, but in Dorothy Hartley's Food in England (Fantastic book!) she talks about little squares of dried jellied stock in the time of the first Queen Elizabeth which would be I suppose quite close to that idea.

I am not sure how much of that paragraph made sense, but it's the thought that counts.

    Hugs to all.

The postman came while I was half way through changing a very loud nappy. The red van man came while I was on the loo. I know that I have at least one parcel that is going to come via a very nice lady in a car - bets anyone?

Also red van man asked whether I was little bear's grandmother.

  • Morning OS friends,

Another grey day today, but doesn't seem as cold.

Trazy - good luck with the freezer roulette meal!
Peyton - Hope DD is better and will be home today.
Moggins - Good luck with your interview
Ladymay - Glad your feeling a bit more upbeat today hon
nic1lou2 - Don't forget about Freecycle for your area too - we got our breadmaker from there and have used it every day for about 4 months now.

My usual home help lady is on holiday this week and this morning I was rudely woken up at 10.00am (yes, I had been up talking to Tristan til silly o'clock) by the doorbell. I ignored it but then the phone went and then the doorbell again. Sure enough it was my replacement home help lady who was told by the office to be here at 10.00am rather than 1.30pm as it said on my rota. Well, to cut a long story short, I have no idea where the spare key is so couldn't let her in. I rang the office and said that the rota said 1.30pm and she sounded really fed up with me as if it was my fault! I now feel a bit discombobulated from being thrown out of my deep sleep in such an abrupt way and after only about 3 hrs sleep!

Tristan is still with us as you might have gathered.. He is still on IV painkillers which means that occasionally his typing becomes illegible for a little while! There are flashes of my Tristan though which make me smile. Can't cry while on cam anyway as it upsets him but there are times when I have to hold it back. I hate to hear him in so much pain, must be so awful for his family.

OH went to Morrisons and bought two Ham Shanks - something I have never had before. They were on the hot deli counter for 25p each. They had crackling which was delicious and the ham wasn't too bad either. So can someone help me with recipe ideas if I go get some from the butchers? They must be a fairly cheap cut, as full price already cooked was only £1.99.

Discovered I am a luddite as far as blogs go and can't even work out how to start one... :rotfl: . My OH gave me the name of a site but it confused the hollyhocks out of me. I just want something simple that I can write on, in a nice font, and upload a few pics as I go.

Going to be an expensive few weeks - Have to have my huge trees lopped - £250, and new glasses and as I cannot get out of the house I am stuck with the clinic that comes here which means no BOGOF deals!

Ok.. not had much sleep so need to crash again til my OH is home at 1330 and the home help returns.

love and warm gentle hugs to anyone who needs them.

MSD - have you contacted your local council, as they may have a reduced-cost scheme for jobs like this for people on benefits / low income?
  • I had no idea that might be a possibility - I will see if I can find a helpline number for our local council and see.

Thank you so much for the suggestion floss hon.

Hey everyone! I dont normally post here but you all seem soooo lovely - so thought id join in! Its nice to know what everyone is up to (not least cos im a bit nosey!)

Its absolutely gorgeous in my neck of the woods today - although im stuck in work and cant enjoy it - i can still look at it!

Sausage Casserole for tea tonight - OH isnt too keen but either that or he starves - its quite simple! :D

Took dog to vet last night for her regular 'anal gland' issue! Probably the most disgusting thing in the world but extremely necessary! Bless her - shes so well behaved when we go. I was slightly miffed this time as she decided to cuddle into the vets assistant rather than me :( Never mind - shes better now!

Busy day at work ahead for me - so hopefully a nice quick day!
