How many loads of washing a week?

Hi Almo....twice a week, light load, Monday and wed or thurs. In between soak any clothes in cold water with liquid detergent. Then 30 degree wash uses 20 litres of water each time.
Would think 3 washes a week enough for two.
If you think back to ye old days, washing was a very cumbersome business. Do you think maybe the way we do things nowadays will be seen as 'over the top' to future generation.0 -
We have an exisitng thread on this subject, so I'll add your post so that you can see other replies

There are two adults and six kids here, including a teenager, a nearly-teenager and a baby in cloth nappies, and I probably do about six loads a week.
*But* I have a huge washing-machine which does a full kingsize bed set - bottom sheet, top sheet, pillowcases and duvet cover - all in one go (in fact there's room for more). And it's a low-water-usage machine, which takes twice as much laundry as my old machine did, whilst using less water.0 -
Thanks Penelope Penguin, I did do a search but clearly didn't refine the terms enough - it came up with hundreds of threads!
Ken, I'm glad we're around the same number of washes. It's just so hard to gauge! I hope that future generations will think we're excessive but I have a nasty feeling they'll do more than we do!
Blueberry, scaled up you actually do fewer washes per person that we do - although I know you said you have a big machine.
I want to cut it down, but I just don't know where to start. Maybe we'll have to embrace the naturist way of life at the weekends! :rotfl:

There's only the two of us now so I do about five loads a week, including towels and bedding. When the six of us were all at home we could have two loads a day.0

When I lived next door to a launderette I only needed to do one big wash a week, dark one week and light the next, handwashing a few bits in between. Those were the days...0

I have myself, DH, 4 children aged 16, 16, 14 & 10 and a dog and I wash 2 sometimes 3 loads a day. I bought a new washing machine last year which holds a 9kg load. I don't use a dryer I peg out or use 2 clothes airers which are permamently up on the landing. It's interesting to see how other people do it all too.0

I've read this thread with some amazement.
What do you people find to wash?
We are 4 (Me, MrsLA and two teenage DS's) and I do five loads of clothes on Sunday (one white, two coloured, two dark) plus one load for either bedding or towels.
Ok I load the machine up a bit but how do some people do a dozen loads a week or wash every day?
Are you washing each item separately?:rotfl:0 -
Just the two of us and the dog in the house - the washing machine is on nearly every night. DH goes to rugby training twice a week, so that generates a couple of loads. Towels get done once a week, and there will be at least one white load of shirts/blouses and one dark load - trousers and skirts.
Also wash the dogs bedding and blankets that we've got on the sofas once a week, so that is a couple of loads on a Saturday.
Try to dry the washing outside and if it's too wet, then I've got space in the back porch for a couple of airers0 -
We are a family of three, me, OH and 3 years old DS. We have a 7.5kg A rated WM, I only do full loads. I try to put the machine on over night so its ready to hang out in the morning, either out side or on the airer in the spare room.
I change hand towels (bathroom & kitchen), tea towels & dish clothes daily as well as knickers/pants & socks. Bedding is changed fortnightly (1 week ours, other week DS's). We each have a bath towel which is changed regularly (dried & aired between uses). All other clothes are changed when dirty/sweaty. P jays changed every few days. We do somewhere between 3 and 8 washes fortnightly. Which will increase soon when #2 is born as we will use cloth nappies, have the extra bedding and clothes for the little one & depending if its a sicky baby a dramatic increase in our clothes/bedding.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent
