Reverbe - I have heard ham shanks referred to, which may be the same.
Looking for a corned beef hash recipe that I know won't kill us while I work out whether or not to empty the freezer.I am browsing the index.

As far a rubber chicken goes, that'll never happen here, DH does like to 'finish it off'
Chilli bubbling away nicely, i did see wendy richards receipe but didn't properly look IYKWIM is it any good ?
Got to get my meal plan ready for shopping tomorrow, to thrift my way round
I too wish i'd learn't more cooking/sewing etc at school and wish i could use a sewing machine. I'd love to be able to make curtains/clothes or even be able to just shorten curtains would be a bonus, as mine need to be tucked up every night so they don't cover the rads
Sorry i'm waffling, must crack on with DD's bedroom before it too late :rolleyes:You know your getting old when yougo to the pub sit outsideand admire the hanging basket

......ham hocks.
Tesco sell them in the fresh meat aisle, with the pork...........On a secondary note does anyone have any advice on defrosting smoked salmon?I froze a HUGE YS one at xmas marked from £11.50 to £2 in small portions and now I have pulled out one to deforst to have with pasta for tomorrows dinner and it looks a bit odd and has broken off in a coupla places.
Smoked salmon doesn't take long to defrost, I usually just leave a pack on a plate in the fridge overnight. It might look a bit odd & broken but it will taste lovely & will be just right for your pasta0 -

Pressure cooker corned beef hash:
Peel & chunk spuds into pressure cooker
Chunk corned beef into pressure cooker
Chop 1 onion into pressure cooker
Add water as per usual amount & cook for usual time (can you tell I lost the pressure cooker in the divorce?!)
Drain, remove trivet & mash!
Serve with red cabbage / pickles / brown sauce......0 -

That is a really good recipe.I threw my pressure cooker away because I was scared of it
HOWEVER I think I shall adapt this.
Also, don't think of it as losing a pressure cooker in the divorce, think of it as gaining a remote controlAnkh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -

I also lost the 3-piece, microwave, dishwasher, cat & a pain in the neck
However, I kept the WM, TD, cooker, F/F and the kids0 -
((((((SYBIL)))))) - Oh no!!! How much in the freezer is salvageable? Is it just the front bits and pieces that are soft? Any cooked meals that are still very cold could be eaten pronto and any raw ingredients could be cooked up and give you another couple of days in the fridge. It depends on how cold the stuff is in the freezer. It’s funny I’ve been thinking lately about how life changes. When I was a child I loved cooking and sewing with my mother but by the time I had to make exam choices in school I chose all academic subjects thinking that they would be more relevant to my future than practical subjects like cooking & sewing. Yet here I am in my mid thirties with 2 kids, gladly redundant from the career I had and now trying to remember how to sew a zip and work out why my pastry is a bit heavy!? I seems ironic that the things I felt were irrelevant and ‘useless’ to me then and probably belittled are actually the most important things to me now! Has anyone else had a turnabout in life like that? Guess that means I must be growing up!!
I feel like this sometimes. I wish I could have spent more time with my grandma rather than had my nose stuck in a book all the time. She was a champion crocheter and I'd love to have been able to do it as well as her.
Big result here today - five year of trying to persuade hubby that parsnips are not the devil's work has paid off :j
My Suspect Veg soup featured one huge very old parsnip along with half a slice of bacon, two elderly potatoes minus their sprouts, half a shriveled onion and the stalk of a brocolli head and he ate it all while pronouncing it delicious although I did have to tell a couple of white lies....
HIM: Is that parsnip I can taste?
ME: Yep. Only about a third of one though
HIM: (stops eating with spoon half raised to mouth) Not that minging old parsnip my mum gave you for the chickens last week?
ME: Don't be daft!
HIM: Hmmmm lovely soup.
I'll get struck down one day for the lies I tell him about his food.
Must do two hours of work now and stay off the OS disaster thread. I've been in stitches for an hour reading it."carpe that diem"0 -
Hi all:j
Just popping on inbetween getting the house cleaned and prepping tea.
Pondering over a problem of sorts:rolleyes:
I am getting married next Dec and myself and OH are staying in honeymoon suite at the hotel the night before and the night of the wedding. My parents are in a suite for the same nights, the idea being DS can stay in with them on sofa bed.
And there lies the problem, as you all prob know DS has Autism and ADHD amongst various other things and I am worried sick he will wander out of their room in the night:rolleyes:
I just do not thnk he will settle away from me and the doors in the rooms do not lock from inside( health and safety regs) I just would not settle all night and would worry sick about whether or not he is ok.
I have decided it is best if he stays in with us but not sure how this will go down with OH:eek:
Hopefully DS will be going to his dads the day after the wedding for 2 days and I was hoping OH will agree to us having our wedding night then instead.
Am dreading discussing it as I don`t know if I am being unreasonable.
Whats everyone think?
Got parents eve later, and also DS just found out they are all wearing PJs to school Friday for Comic Relief...he is horrified at the idea:rotfl:
Sausage, cheesey mash and beans for tea so nice and simple after a busy day cleaning
Congrats to Granny Betheebee:T
Hugs to all who need them

If you are thinking about the usual which happens on wedding nights:D I don't think it actually does! When we got married OH said lets not bother on the night cos I'll be too drunk! Some friends who got married last year had a similar converstaion. Its such a busy exciting exhusting day that you might not want any 'ows your father, nudge nudge wink wink!0 -
Noahspennilessmummy - hugs. For our honeymoon we stayed at home, locked the door and kept the curtains drawn. Recommended! Perhaps you should approach your dear heart and say, we need to work out how to have a special night. These are the factors we need to consider. Whatever, hope it is wonderful for you.
Still dithering over the freezer. But little bear has had a little play in the street and a trip to the local shop without any ill effects (I have nearly had heart failure at his attitude to cars etc, but that is normal  I repeat the stop look listen but so far he has blithely ignored it all).
I think the food is actually okay, but I am going to take the view that if it isn't in the freezer we are not eating it for the next few days and get rid of it all. Actually it may be more than a few days, but I need to have it cleared for my peace of mind. I worry. At least it is a minor worry.
Hugs to all.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0
