'Morning All!
WOW - thanks for all your good wishes for our anniversary yesterday - I was really touched! :T We had a lovely meal at a local restaurant, followed by a few drinks on a local pub, and some friends popped in (incl. our best man & his wife) to wish us well, which was really nice.
Steel - it is our 3rd WA, we have been a couple for just over 6 years, but have known each other for over 20 years  - which is rather scary when we come to think about it!!!!!
PippaS - thanks for the 'eye' advice - thankfully I didn't need it, as I managed to just well-up a couple of times, and not to sob my heart out, so hopefully that means I am making progress!
Moggins - Hope you feel better today Hun.
Snowy - well done on the interview/job front, that is very positive news.
Tru - Go girl! Stick to your guns! I reckon you are right and give them a few weeks they will be begging for the 'Old Tru' back!
WS - hope LB is OK today. Bumps on the head are always scary. I'm amazed how mnay people don't go to the hospital and check them out. I always remember a film we watched in First-aid Training about compression fractures - it really stuck with me and I always insist anyone I treat who had a bump on the head gets it checked out. Thankfully LO's are resilient beings (my DSS#2 is very clumsy & accident prone - always bumped & bruised and SO MANY trips to hospital A&E I've lost count - but he always bounces back!).
We are back at the Support Group tonight.....I am preparing myself for it, as the topic is about how weight & BMI affect your fertility, and your getting treatment...this is a real bugbear of mine as I totally disagree with BMI being used as a measurement on it's own (which is one of the things they do to decide if they will treat you) - it is meaningless unless you take a person's lifestyle and individual health into account (eg. - the majority of England Rugby team's BMI scores make them 'obese' - would you say they were unfit/unhealthy????!!!????) so I am preparing myself to have a bit of a 'go' at the experts (nerve-racking, but I feel strongly so it must be done!).
Not much time for OS - lasagne defrosted in the fridge for supper when we get home.
(((HUGS))) to everyone. The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"

Morning everyone,
Still very wet and windy here today. I went with DH to work as planned and then did a bit of shopping before coming home. Bit tired tonight so early night planned. Have to go out tomorrow morning and hope to get a few jobs done around the house in the arv. I suppose that depends on the mood. Whenever I go out in the morning I find it hard to do stuff in the arv. Please tell me this is normal.
Chrisca Yes I'm really enjoying them. I'm going to extend the dvd at the library tomorrow as I haven't finished them in time.
Snowy Hope your head feels a bit better today.
CM Special hugs for you. Get better soon.
Beth Congratulations on the birth of your grand daughter.
Sunnygirl <hugs> to your daughter.
<hugs> to anyone I've missed too that's crook or a bit down.Good night everyone. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Congrats to everyone who had a new baby in the family, exciting times for all, hugs to everyone who needs them today
I’m having a slow day today, YD woke up with stinking cold today so instead of going swimming today we’re having a lazy day on the settee watching Sleeping Beauty! I could slip off in a bit and do a little bit of cleaning but more important to give her the cuddles she needs today, (any excuse not to do the chores!!!)
I was going to pop to the fabric shop today as I need some interfacing for a skirt I’m making I printed a pattern off the Burda website and sellotaped it all together, already got the fabric but I was convinced I had interfacing and a zip (wonder where they have got to.....) .
I’ve got a large pack of mince in the sc today with some lentils, soya mince, stuffing mix and stock cooking away nicely. I shall take some out later on to make chilli for dinner (anyone see that Wendy Richards had a chilli recipe in the order of service for her funeral? I guess it was her secret recipe!) and the rest will be portioned and frozen for other meals. By the time I make a meal out of the mince base it’s practically vegetarian!
It’s funny I’ve been thinking lately about how life changes. When I was a child I loved cooking and sewing with my mother but by the time I had to make exam choices in school I chose all academic subjects thinking that they would be more relevant to my future than practical subjects like cooking & sewing. Yet here I am in my mid thirties with 2 kids, gladly redundant from the career I had and now trying to remember how to sew a zip and work out why my pastry is a bit heavy!? I seems ironic that the things I felt were irrelevant and ‘useless’ to me then and probably belittled are actually the most important things to me now! Has anyone else had a turnabout in life like that? Guess that means I must be growing up!!:eek:0 -
Morning (just) all.
The weather is looking iffy here so i think the latest load in the WM will be hung indoors.
Hugs to the poorlies (()) and those with poorly relatives.
WS glad to hear LB is fine - apparently I was always landing on my head and i've turned out fine.....;)
Celyn - I hope you manage to get through the next day without committing ILicide, enjoy your night our you deserve it.
Sorry if the typing is a bit wonky today he letterbox bit my fingers yesterday so all the plasters are makign my left hand a bit useless!
WM on, HM spicy carrot soup for lunch and something exciting from the veg box tonight. Got a Eurobox this week as i needed something to break the monotony of root veg - got some lovely tomatoes, peppers and courgettes as well as fennel and kohlrabi, salad stuff and a free taster of olive and sundried tom bread.
I'm off to a meeting of our local veg growig collective tonight so can hopefully get some ideas for what we can manage on our patio - we don;t have a garden but we do have a courtyard with plenty of space for pots and whatnot. I'm thinking tomatos and strawberries with some herbs and salad as i've grown them before and they cost quite a bit in the shops. I'm just waiting to see what the weather is like on this side of the pennines - I'm used to the mild wet west coast not the yorkshire moors!
Hope you all have a happy and OS day!

Hi guys,
Just got back from the GP with LO. He had me up until 1am this morning in a great deal of pain with his ear. The out of hours last night gave some advice when I phoned which mainly consisted of either going to the nearest place open for some ibuprofen for him or raking someone else out of bed to do so. Unfortunately 1 required waking the other 2 up and a taxi and 2 was a no-no. So I carried on dosing him with calpol. The kept insisting that I should at least try to get it
He is still in pain today but it is a little easier and the GP said to carry on with the calpol and go back in a couple of days if there is no improvement and that he would then prescribe some antibiotics. So another unpaid day today. Good thing I have an understanding employer. :T :T
I have tidied through before we left this morning and will throw some pasta and tuna together for tea I think. Hopefully he will decide to nap later and I will crawl on the other side of the settee when he does so. The last wash is in and I AM going to clear the small pile of ironing before it grows for the weekend.
Congratulations on the new arrivals :T :T :T
Gentle hugs to all in need today.

Bunny200 - I also took a lot of 'academic' style qualifications, was never going to clean like my Mum did, thought that the hours she spent preparing lovely, tasty, cheap & homecooked meals was a waste of time & laughed myself silly at the thought of her dressmaking! *Hangs head in shame & apology to Mum now* I now do all of this very happily & willingly too and more besides. We decided when we had our last baby 10 years ago that I'd stay at home full time and, for us, it works. We go without 'luxuries' quite a bit but it works for us. The kids seem to need more input now that they're growing into adults I guess that the problems become bigger & can't be solved with a cuddle or drink of juice these days. My Nana used to tell me to enjoy the time when they were little as I'd wish for it back - I thought she was mad lol - but I know what she means now!
Gosh I've waffled on sorry.0 -
Mornin
Its lovely and sunny here again today, shows my back windows up they look as though they have never been cleaned, suppose I'll have to do something about that
This croaky throat is driving me  I never know whats going to come out when I try and speak.
It started 2wks ago on holiday, and seemed to be on the way out on Monday, but is back with a vengance today, havent got a cold though its weird,
Had an awful night, we were woken up at 3:45:eek: by a noise not a crash but it sounded like someone jumping on a car IYKWIM, anyway I jumped (well sort of) out of bed and looked out of the window and saw....a police car and police men with torches and radios going up and down paths and along the road, it went on for ages then the eye-in-the-sky came over, It all calmed down around 5am and we eventually got back to sleep for a couple of hours. What it was all about I've no ideaIts usually so quiet round here.
Will update as and when I find out.

Afternoon all.
Jus nipping in quick as I have to write down my jobsearch and cook myself something to eat before going to the Wetherspoons before the match. If i have been MIA a lot from the os threads it's cos the last coupla weeks my footy team seems to have been playing every coupla days ro so rather than once a fortnight.
You lot are all making me jealous with your ham hocks. I read about them here on MSE and want to try one myself however I can't seem to find them. Are they called something else or is it just that our shops here - M&S, Tesco, Sainsburys and the poor butcher on the market who tends to sell everything only in multipacks - just don't sell it. They do say you can get them in Morrisons but I don't think ours is open yet. They have converted a Co-op in a neighbouring suburb and I am not even shure they will be big enough to have a butchery.
On a secondary note does anyone have any advice on defrosting smoked salmon?I froze a HUGE YS one at xmas marked from £11.50 to £2 in small portions and now I have pulled out one to deforst to have with pasta for tomorrows dinner and it looks a bit odd and has broken off in a coupla places. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0
