  • London Barking is a decent property, new-build and obviously features the newer room interior.

Great location for me to hop down to London City Airport, only 20-25 mins away via Tube/DLR.

Just a quick note to come back and say a special thanks. Having read your comments I followed your lead and found this location a joy. I think it will become a favourite and plans are made for a return sooner rather than later.

I agree that it's a really good location. However, it might be worth avoiding the height of summer - when we were there there was no air conditioning in the room and the proximity of water means that you risk your room being invaded by swarms of midges if you open the window....
  • I've stayed at the great yarmouth one with my family and it was not to far from beach and close enough to lots of lovely places in norfolk to use as a base. we will definitely go again! keeping an eye out for some more £9 offers!
  • I would say the one in Harlow- Wagner stayed there with an 18 year old single mum he pulled in a Harlow club after performing on the final of "The X-Factor".

    Classy.

    For terryw:
yes, I've stayed in the Fulham Travelodge. It's fine. I'd stay there again as I want to be in that particular part of London to see family. But if I was going to visit London generally for tourism I'd prefer to be a bit more central, but those are harder to get. The Fulham one is fine and functional without being anything special. The reception people were freindly. The road it is on is not very salubrious and I thought twice about walking there at night (as a lone female), but there were no problems. The biggest problem for me was that I couldn't find the door to the Travelodge (it's upstairs with a small doorway) so I was walking up and down looking for it (even though I'd walked past it a few times!)
  • Battersea Travelodge
I wouldn't particualry recommend this one. It was fine - clean, friendly etc. But the location is not very good if you have come to London for tourism. It's a bit difficult to get to and feels a long way from the centre.

I stay here quite a lot. Very central but quite dead at weekends as it is near the city. Five minutes walk to some excellent pubs including "The Eagle" -

Up and down the City Road
    In and out The Eagle
That's the way the money goes
    Pop goes the weasel

    Pop = to pawn
The weasel = cockney slang for weasel and stoat = coat =weasel

Also plenty of buses and tubes all close-by. Newsagents etc just outside. If you get a good rate go for it.
Cannot thank you enough for the helpful information. My Londoner hubby's birthday is this month and this ex California girl just could not think of where to book for a base with a bit of a twist. I'm now taking him to the City Road Travelodge. I think he will find the connection with the nursery rhyme fun. We'll certainly include a walk to the Eagle while we are in the area. Thanks for taking the time to post this interesting information.
  • Anyone happen to know when the next sale is? i managed to get a room we wanted for April in this sale , but couldn't get my other choice for May.
Just wondering whether to wait for the next one if it's fairly soon or have a look at other options.

You may also be interested to know that on the opposite side of the road between the Travelodge and Old Street tube station is Bunhill Fields cemetery, where some famous people such as Daniel Defoe (who wrote Robinson Crusoe) and William Blake (Jerusalem etc) are buried - worth a wander.

The last one was for the whole of 2011, however it's not uncommon for travelodge to have sales where they re-offer time periods which had been in previous sales, although having a sale for a full year of dates is unprecedented.

One thing for sure is that they won't tell you when the sale is going to be, if you're on their mailing list then you'll get about a weeks notice, otherwise it's a commercial secret! (Or they just have sales dependent on how current bookings are looking!)
