Oh dear. For goodness sake, do not refer to it as Middlesborough to the locals - you will be eaten alive! It is Middlesbrough.
The good news is that the TL is right in the centre, parking in the supermarket next door is (or was free) but you must let reception know. The nearest pub is the roughest pub that I have ever been in in my entire life (and believe me I have been in some rough old dives) but the large shopping centre is very close and there is a Wetherspoons within a five minute walk. It is not a good idea to mention the current status of the local football team if you end up chatting with the local inhabitants.
But just enjoy the 'boro for what it is and take a delight in exploring the countryside around about."If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools"

Stayed here a few years back - I can't remember what the hotel itself was like, which suggests it was neither very good nor very bad.
However, it's one of those in a service area on a busy road out in the sticks - there's just a Little Chef and a petrol station shop for the usual overpriced sandwiches to get anything to eat, with notthing else nearby.0 -

Have already got more booked, any good advice or reviews on the following ones:
Travelodge Alfreton, Derbyshire, (going to chatsworth house)
Travelodge Birmingham Frankley (black country museum)
Travelodge Binley (visting legoland)
Travelodge Caernarfon (for the castle)
Travelodge Coventry Binley (for Warwick castle)
Travelodge Covent Garden (for London)
Have got some of these for £10 a night, others for £19.00 inc the london one.
Only really want a base as taking the children exploring, and its cheaper then a campsite, but really want it clean and somewhere to get breakfast/dinner.
Caernarfon is fairly new-about 2/3 years I think. It's right by the Menai Straights (sea between Caernarfon & Anglesey) not sure if you could ask for a room with a sea view?
As you look at the TL to the right about 400 yards away there is a free council car park (the furthest car park to right)-expect they'll direct you there anyway.
Within the same complex there is a lovely chinese resteraunt called "Fu's" never been but heard good reports, I think it's expensive though-they have a web site. There is also a Brewer's Fayre or is it Bewster's? They do 2 meals for £10, have eaten there and it's OK for the price, its within yards of the hotel.
You'll be able to walk to the castle, and everything else in Caernarfon from the T/L.
Not sure how old your children are but there is an indoor funcentre 5 mins walk away http://www.thefuncentre.co.uk/frameset/index-frameset.html which we have been to when kids where young-they had a great time there-haven't been for a good few years though.
Within easy driving distances there are some great places:
Anglesey-Beaumaris is nice and another castle there
Snowdonia
Portmeirion
It's nice to have all these little hoilidays to look forward to, OH & myself are doing the same thing this year, but with Tesco Deals (before they were de-valued) and have 5 mini weekend breaks booked thoughout year.
Enjoy!:):j0 -
Thank you toozie for the wonerful info, my kids love wales and exploring the castle, they also love the fun centre, spent a week in porthmadog a few yrs back, so will pay this a vist again.
I can't wait to go on all these cheapish breaks, (can;'t get cheaper in a campsite), just pack our bags, load up a picnic and of we go, and will be taking them out of school, as find it quieter, all the trips are educational in my eyes, apart from legoland (but will combine this with a vist to windsor!).
Enjoy your breaks.0 -
Tamworth travel lodge ideal for visiting Twycross zoo & drayton manor. Used it afew times. very clean, very quiet as at services off the M42. Very hot but arent they all.
We used this one for Alton Towers, also handy for the snow dome.If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in0 -
I'm just looking now and if I put in just one day it comes up for a tenner but if I want the following day as well it changes the first day to more. Should I try booking the 2 days separately or will there be a faff when I get there? If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in0
