Great 'Best Travelodge Holidays' Hunt: Which travelodge's offer the perfect get away?

I've seen several references to the TL Gatwick being at Crawley which really puzzles me. I've stayed there loads of times, it's approx five minutes drive (maybe 1.5miles) from the terminals (it backs on to the North Terminal runways not that it was noisy at all...apart from the numpties there on our most recent stay) which is about as close as you can get unless you want to pay circa £150 for the Hilton or Aurora!
!
This is a niggle of mine, but as I said, it is no problem if you have a car with you. But the infrequent airport bus from the airport to the TL is £6 each way (captive audience pricing) and it is really far too far to walk.
I think i have been spoilt by the TLs at for example Newcastle or Leeds/Bradford airports where the TL isd at the airport and not a coach or taxi ride away.

Flying from any of the "London" airports you pay your money and make your choice; either car parking fees, bus/coach fares, taxi fares, train fares or a very expensive on-airport hotel, whichever is best for you.
It is the cheapo nature of TL that they are normally situated a little way from the terminal/city centre etc., but even then not as far as Mr O'Leary's airports are from the destinations he purports to serve!
But at TL prices who really worries?:beer:0 -

Got to agree with most of what you say....see my earlier posts. But the point that I am making is that it is niggle for a TL named Gatwick Airport to be miles away and served by an expensive airport run bus route at £6 per head each-way = £18 per return journey =£36 additional cost is not really fair. It might be fair comment if I had paid the sale price of £9 per night but I didn't!!
I am a great TL fan, but I really don't want them to go down the route of Ruinair. I can only reiterate that that other TLs that are labelled as "airports" are at the airport and not miles away.

Terry; not many that close, certainly my experience of those airport T/Ls at Birmingham, Blackpool, Glasgow, Heathrow and Manchester are all a taxi or bus ride away.
Something you may not be aware of is that all bus/taxi/transfer operators get charged each time they enter or depart from most large airports, just one of the reasons for the high cost of travel to or from the airport & hotel.0 -
Stayed at Kinross for 2 nights in February for DH's birthday, £18 a night for a family room so we had a sofa to sit on as well as the bed. Immaculately clean room, clean bedding and towels, loads of hot water and lovely and warm (it snowed overnight on the Friday!). For the price an absolute bargain.
Friends of ours decided to join us for the Saturday night and booked late so paid around £50 for their room, but they were still pleased with the room at that price.
It is at a motorway services, but this is a small quiet services and is situated off a slip road from the motorway. WH Smith, Costa Coffee and Burger King opposite, but we aren't keen on these chains so didn't use them.
Behind the Travelodge is a Garden Centre with a Lovely waitress service cafe. We ate lunch in there on Saturday and on Sunday morning we popped in for breakfast before we left - lovely freshly made pancakes with maple syrup and crispy bacon for £4.50.
There is also a small Safeway supermarket about 200 yds away.
On the Saturday morning we drove into Kinross - only a couple of minutes away. The town itself is rather run down, a little sad as it had some lovely architecture but was mostly decaying, however the silver lining to this town is that just on the edge of the town centre is Loch Leven, had a lovely walk around the edge of the loch - there is a nice childrens play area here if you have children. Incidently this is the birthplace of Robbie Burns and there is a monument to him in the lakeside churchyard.
Saturday afternoon we went to Perth and a good trawl round their charity shops!
Saturday evening we booked into the Grouse and Claret Restaurant situated about 100yds down a small lane on the opposite side of the road to the Travelodge. NOT cheap, but worth every penny - very friendly hosts and top notch food, the bread and butter pudding was the best I have ever tasted.
We found plenty to do in Feb for a weekend, I would think it an ideal break at any time of year, it is pretty central for a few places of interest, Stirling would be good and it isn't that far from Edinburgh.0 -
I recently spent a break in Bath an stayed at the Waterside Travelodge for £9 - I thought the location was outstanding - a 5 minute walk to the Pulteney Bridge and the centre of town.0

The worst Travelodge I've stayed in was Bristol Central - it was dire. Mouldy ceilings, broken window catches so the room was freezing and the traffic noise very loud - and very disinterested staff.
One of the better ones was Pembroke Dock - much nicer and very helpful staff. We stayed there whilst driving up the Welsh coast, but it's also a stop-off before catching the ferry to Dublin.0 -
I've just returned from the Edinburgh Learmonth Travelodge. Its located in a very smart residential area - the hotel itself is a few town houses knocked together and still has a bit of character with its sash windows and slightly uneven floorboards.
There is a bus stop right in front of the hotel to take you into town (Lothian buses 37/47) and another one just around the corner serving a different route (Lothian buses 41). You can walk to the western end of Princes street in about 15 minutes, it's downhill on the way to the hotel.
You can follow the Water of Leith from near the hotel into Leith itself but I wouldn't bother as it's not particularly scenic and I lost the path near the rubbish depot! Maybe it's a more pleasant walk heading upstream?
The staff were very good and best of all it only cost £9/night!0 -
Has anyone stayed at the t-lodge by Manchester Airport? x
We did last year before our Florida holiday. It seems like a dim and distant memory now
It was only £19 and had a Bar Cafe but we didn't have breakfast there as our flight was too early. It was very clean and modern looking0 -

It is an excellent location as it is only a short drive to Gulliver's world, Chester Zoo & Cheshire Oaks outlet shopping. Not too far away from Manchester & Liverpool either. Very friendly staff although reception was not manned during the day. Parking was an extra £5 per day though. Ensure your parking ticket is visable as they are very quick in putting a ticket on your car. My parking ticket was waivered though. Overall a decent stay.
I've just booked too. Thanks for the info about parking. What did you do for breakfast?0
