Great 'Best Travelodge Holidays' Hunt: Which travelodge's offer the perfect get away?

  • Just came back from using the Littlehampton (near Arundel) Travelodge, a great bargain - not far from Arundel. Tried to rebook on the sale (we've left it a bit late, so no luck) other hotels much more expensive. Not a pretty location but clean, tidy and all you need with the great bonus of being a stones throw from the beach for Littlehampton and a short drive to Arundel.

We used Bath Central (after being moved from the Bath Watersedge last minute due to maintenance works) and left at 3am, very noisy and noise compounded by cleaning staff we presume, banging a door every 5 minutes (and this was the night that the nightclub across the road wasn't open). We were in a basement room where they very obviously hadn't bothered to clean the toilet and there was substantial flooding on the ceiling - it had a squat feel to it. I spent several minutes explaining to the receptionist that I needed hot water to go in my coffee cup for the breakfast we tried to take away with us, such was the standard of English. Also, little is made of the parking which is expensive, and due to the period of time we (had planned) to stay, we had to walk for over 5 minutes from the car park. Not worth it in our opinion - I've been put off Bath now.

We stayed in the Preston Park Brighton approx 1 year ago, around half an hours walk from town. Good value for money, set back from the road so quiet enough and a little modern bar there too. Nice spacious room, clean and tidy.

I think i have been spoilt by the TLs at for example Newcastle or Leeds/Bradford airports where the TL isd at the airport and not a coach or taxi ride away.

There is no TL at Newcastle Airport... think you're thinking of Premier Inn. Nearest TL to Newcastle Airport is Seaton Burn which is miles away

    Just to add...
Me and my mate stayed at Aldgate East TL on Friday and it was lovely!
Only cost £39 for a twin room, and we were very impressed - the bathroom was very nice and the shower was a power shower that was lovely and hot - not your usual bog standard hotel shower!
The room was clean, bright and cool, and despite the fact I had read reviews saying that noise from the nearby DLR/Tube tracks was deafening, we didnt hear a peep.
Staff were helpful, reception and bar were nice, it's only a 10 minute walk (and that was in killer heels!!!) :D from Aldgate East tube and theres a fantastic Wetherspoons about another 10 minutes walk away on Prescot Street where we had a lovely breakfast on Saturday morning (enormous farmhouse breakfast for me, a Veggie fry-up for my mate, a J20 and a coffee came to just over £9 - bargain!!!!)
Despite people saying that its a dodgy area late at night etc no-one bothered us. However one thing I would say is beware of the horribly cracked and uneven pavement on the approach to the hotel - I twisted my ankle on it!!!!!!:o

I'm a Travelodge fan - never had a bad stay in one yet!

My fave is York central, been mentioned already so I wont go on :)

Liverpool Central is great, location good for Lime St and all the shops, Liverpool One etc. We go every year for Xmas shopping!

Blackpool (by the football ground) great location and a welcome change to the shabby B+B's

Utoxetter good for Alton Towers visits. Little Chef next door ok for food.
  • im due to stay at the milton keynes central on in july, £29 pn x 3
but the dog bit, do TL not think about dogs loose, fouling and phobias?

I think this one has been open for a couple of years now, so fairly new. Its on quite a busy road, so can be noisy, but its central location is great

Behind the Travelodge is a Garden Centre with a Lovely waitress service cafe. We ate lunch in there on Saturday and on Sunday morning we popped in for breakfast before we left - lovely freshly made pancakes with maple syrup and crispy bacon for £4.50. ditto...lovely place attached to the dobbies garden centre

There is also a small Safeway supermarket about 200 yds away. its a somerfield one actually:p think it was closing down the last time i was there about a month or so ago but wasnt paying that much attention. another convenience store about five mins down the road.

On the Saturday morning we drove into Kinross - only a couple of minutes away. The town itself is rather run down, a little sad as it had some lovely architecture but was mostly decaying, however the silver lining to this town is that just on the edge of the town centre is Loch Leven, had a lovely walk around the edge of the loch - there is a nice childrens play area here if you have children. Incidently this is the birthplace of Robbie Burns and there is a monument to him in the lakeside churchyard. are you sure about that lol....he was actually born over in ayrshire!!

Saturday afternoon we went to Perth and a good trawl round their charity shops!

Saturday evening we booked into the Grouse and Claret Restaurant situated about 100yds down a small lane on the opposite side of the road to the Travelodge. NOT cheap, but worth every penny - very friendly hosts and top notch food, the bread and butter pudding was the best I have ever tasted. there is a chinese restaurant and an indian one too (which is fab) a few other hotels in kinross good for eating out so you wont be stuck for choice.

We found plenty to do in Feb for a weekend, I would think it an ideal break at any time of year, it is pretty central for a few places of interest, Stirling would be good and it isn't that far from Edinburgh.[/QUOTE]

    i have stayed at :-

washington south bound (coming from the north). passable but ancient. dont expect the best because its not...in need of an upgrade.

inverness....both lodges. the one near the retail park is the best imo but thats personal taste. family rooms are massive. car park has to be paid for but cant remember how much. lol at the white van comments previously said....thats true but you have to bear in mind that for those who live further up away from shops they travel in to do a big bulk shopping so perhaps thats what the white vans are for lol:p remember its the highlands!! on the edge of the wilderness nearly!
