I've just booked too. Thanks for the info about parking. What did you do for breakfast?

Warrington has a JD Wetherspoon pub, most of which are open from 0900 daily for breakfast at about £4 a head for full english, tea or coffee and toast (ask for the "tea and toast offer" with your cooked breakfast). www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk ; if you have children it may be cheaper to use the T/L offer if they have a barcafe and are still doing the kids eat free offer.

As we are well past children, except grandkids, we always use Wetherspoon's, if you are really hungry go for the Farmhouse breakfast which doubles up on some of the hot food and includes toast but not a tea/coffee, for less than £4 in most of their pubs.

This place is lovely! I was built in Jan 2009 so it is brand new and very clean! It offers the perfect location too as it is onsite the Red Dragon centre which has bowling, Cinema, loads of gorgeous restaurants and the Doctor Who exhibition!
2 Minutes walk is the rift from torchwood and the millenium centre as well as the bay and mermaid quay. You have loads to do on your door step and it was the perfect 3 day break!

    I've been Money Tipped!
The worst Travelodge I've stayed in was Bristol Central - it was dire. Mouldy ceilings, broken window catches so the room was freezing and the traffic noise very loud - and very disinterested staff.

One of the better ones was Pembroke Dock - much nicer and very helpful staff. We stayed there whilst driving up the Welsh coast, but it's also a stop-off before catching the ferry to Dublin.

Stayed at Bristol Severn View last year, worst ever. Room was filthy, cleaning materials left in bathroom, cracked tiles, back of room door had greasy fingerprints all over. Only one pillow each, asked for more, told no spare.

Just got back from a long weekend at Caernarfon T/L, very new with friendly and helpful staff, free car parking about 3-4 mins walk away in the one behind Morrison's Supermarket overlooking the Menai Straits (looks safe with no piles of broken glass).

The town and castle is only 6 or 7 minutes walk away and the Welsh Highland railway about 15 minutes walk.

Breakfast can be had at Wetherspoon's from 0900 daily, or in the main square there is a Subway which opens at 0745 weekdays, later on Sundays.

The only fault with this T/L is that the mattresses on the beds seem to be of the "very firm" variety, and are certainly harder than those in any of the other T/Ls I have used recently.

When approaching from the Bangor (A55) direction, turn right at the second roundabout (the first takes you into Morrison's).
  • Stayed here end of March 2009 for 5 nights (£19 per night). It's recently been converted from a 4 star Menzies Hotel to a Travelodge so the rooms were newly decorated. Plentiful parking on site and, contrary to what it says on the Travelodge web site, parking was free.
Location excellent, just 10 minutes walk from the centre along the "Riverside Walk" which is popular and well-lit at night. We never tried the breakfast or Bar Cafe so can't comment on that.

I would be interested to hear of other Travelodges close to the station, please.

We travelled by train to stay at the Edinburgh Central T/L. It is only about 10 minutes walk from Waverley Station. The location is superb, just off the royal mile. We got it for £9 per night and were well chuffed. Get some cheap train tickets and add in some 2 for 1 restaurant vouchers for Cafe Rouge and others and you've got an excellent bargain break.

Just got back from 2 nights at COVENT GARDEN ( High Holborn Building ). Covent Travelodge is split into two buildings, this much cleaner and set out better.
    We had a family Room ( 2 adults + 7 yr old ) @ £19 per night.
Fantastic location, you have the fantastic Neals street with all its individual shops and many lanes going off it, Covent Station is only 5 mins walk maximum.

The downside was that although we had a Family room, on both nights there was a Hen night party in the room opposite and either side who were singing, dancing, banging until 3 in the morning. On complaining that being in a Family room we would expect some peace at night we were told that the security would talk to them on the second night, which they did but still noise.

Also you get to borrow a hairdryer and Iron for upto 2 hours from reception.

Overall I would recommend this Hotel for Location and Cleanliness.
I am only trying to help
  • We are thinking o go to the shopping village at Bichester and wondered if anyone had been to a Travelodge around there that they would recommend?

I've stayed at the one at Cherwell Valley Services on the M40 (the nearest to the Bicester Shopping Village) and the one at Oxford Peartree (more convenient for Oxford itself). Both absolutely fine.

York Central Travelodge is great for location, within walking distance of most attractions and is fairly modern. Wetherspoons next door for cheap food etc, ask for a room away from the courtyard and you hear no noise.

Edinburgh Haymarket Travelodge is a great option if there is no availability in Edinburgh Central. It's 10 mins walk to Princess Street, shops, castle etc and is vey quiet. A converted Victorian town house, so it has character too.

In London, Southwark Travelodge has to be hard to beat, less than a year old, in zone 1 and 2 mins walk to the tube station.
