Six weeks ago, I wanted a sky plus box... have been with sky for years and years. I was offered a special "deal" of £49 plus £30 installation.

They would not budge on the price, so I cancelled my account

A month later my channels were turned off, but I could still access all of the freeview channels plus loads that i didn't even know existed (or would ever watch :) ).

This week, just two weeks after my subscription ended, i recieved a voucher through the post, asking me to return to sky, offering a new Sky Plus box, FREE installation and £50 Tesco vouchers.

If you can do without SKY's premium channels for a couple of weeks it seems the way to go
Mortgage and totally Debt Free as of December 2008.

    boy does it feel good!
Thanks MSE for all the tips and advice
  • finally managed to get through on the link, so i have hopefully now got a free sky+ box getting installed on sunday. woo hoo.

Many thanks, i love this website, so many money saving tips, i'm such a bargain hunter - LOVE IT!!!

Could existing customers cancel and rejoin using partners details to get this offer?
  • I was with Sky a few years ago, they offered me the £50 vouchers which I received, however when I decided to cancel they did not cancel at their end and I ended up having to go to my bank to stop payments being taken. All in all the £50 was taken back in subscriptions, you have to watch them, they are very sly.

I went recently to get the HD offer, and after last incident decided I would pay by standing order through my bank. They would not accept this form of payment, oinly payment by direct debit, therefore you are not in control of any amount they wish to take from your bank account. I will not sign up for this offer asa I do not trust them sufficently. I wonder why they will not take Standing Order payments, they will not give me an answer to this question.

I can only imagine it is something to do with not being able to revise the payment amount for pay per view events and/or premier movies . They do accept recurring credit/debit card authority as this, and dd, will allow the amount to be revised to cover any extras in any month.

Just a guess, but it's all I can think of

    I'd say exactly the opposite.

The Direct Debit Guarantee gives you, the customer, total control because, if you dispute a payment call, then your bank is obliged to immediately reverse the transaction.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • hi, ive just spoke to sky they told me they have never heard of this and also it is only for the digital switch over in the north it also not £30 but £60 to install(thought they never heard of this), the link works but won't let me get past the registation page as it tells me im already a customer. still without sky+
  • This might sound daft but if you get a sky box does that mean you automatically get sky TV (especially Sky Sports)? Live in a male dominated household and have so far been able to talk darling hubby out of package on cost grounds. At present on Virgin package, which includes freeview, broadband, phoneline and free weekend calls. TV is HD ready. Would this be a better option?
    Thanks
