    Thank you :)

I've booked installation for next Monday, which is pretty quick!

    Thanks again

  • I've booked it now too, I'll cancel my "ordinary" sky package once it's installed, I will post up if I have any issues doing it this way round.

thanks MSE for the original link
  • I think there should be more offers for people that have got Sky already. Ive basically been paying £38 a month for the past six years and have tried every trick in the book but can get Sky+ without paying £99 for the box then £70 installation on top of that. I got a leaflet through the door saying because im in a digital switch over I could get Sky+ for £49 (plus £70 installation charge) which is still expensive and then when I phoned them they said that this offer was only available to new customers.:cry::cry:

I spoke to an online advisor today.

It went from no vouchers, to £50 M&S vouchers, to £30 M&S vouchers to "Nat: That's fine, whats stopping you from ordering today?" - They also got things very confused when I asked for the online deal, which the advisor didn't seem to sure on, she kept referring back to a letter I had mentioned which offered a £49 Sky+HD box as opposed to a free one.

  • Here’s the trick for a free upgrade to Sky + if you’re an existing customer.

Phone up to say that you are thinking of leaving Sky as you are never in to watch it so it’s a waste of time. Tell them that you use just use the internet to catch up with anything you’ve missed.

They’ll then try and persuade you to stay (have you heard of Sky+ etc) - plead poverty and say that the box is too expensive and you can’t afford the installation fee. They’ll then reduce the price - you still insist that you are too skint too afford it and they will eventually offer you a free box and installation. It worked for me about 6 months ago and it’s been great! You’ll still have to pay the monthly sub if you don’t have one of the more expensive packages though.

I cancelled my sky years ago. I was offer three months half price contracts which I took up over the Christmas time then cancelled. Then a year ago they were offering Sky+ box totally free no charges all you needed was a working Sky box ( standard ) for a 12 month contract
  • Does anyone know how it works if you have paid for a Sky dish and box, but don't subscribe? My mother did this a few years ago, she paid a one-off amount (think it was about £100) and had the dish and box installed but only gets freeview channels. This was because she couldn't get a digital signal without the dish. So is she an existing customer or not?
  • I think it is unfair that existing Sky customers are not able to receive this offer!!

    What's this about?

New Sky customers can get a free Sky+ box (normally £99) plus £50 in M&S vouchers. Sky's offering this deal to MoneySavers as a 'sorry' for making a booboo previously and giving us permission to publish a code in the weekly email that it shouldn't have. (See the original thread)

    The Full Low-Down

New Sky customers can get a years contract with a free Sky+ box (which is the famous hard drive recorder with live pause etc) plus £50 M&S vouchers before 24 March. The basic package costs £16.50 a month.

    What you get
    • Free Sky+ box (usually worth £99)
    • Free 2Mb broadband (if you rent your line from Sky rather than BT)
    • Free weekend calls
    • £50 M&S vouchers
    What you don't get
    • Installation, which costs £30
    • Telephone line rental, which you get from BT or Sky at £10/month.
    How to get the deal

    1. Go to this special Sky page before 24 March
    2. Pick the package you want and check out.

Update by Martin 10.40am Wed 11 Mar. Last night Sky had a glitch meaning the link above didnt work. It's now fixed and when you click it you should see the deal.

    Can this be beaten?

As a straight open to all deal, you can just sign up for a Sky+ box it's untouchable. Yet for those willing to spend time and play, there are some alternatives that are worth considering.
    • Forum Type Codes. There are often a few codes flying about (possibly even on this site) which can get you a slightly better deal (roughly £25 cheaper) on a Sky+ box - though currently Sky says none are active.

Yet these codes are given by Sky for specific individuals as promotional deals, and it is within its right to block you using them even after the fact (this is what happened with the original deal, it first said a code was "fine to tell people about", but actually it wasn't").

Rather than using them directly, the best thing to do is get the details of those details, phone its call centre, quote the deal and haggle to get it to match it.
    • Cashback Sites for HD Deals.

Currently Sky has a promotion on that you can get a Sky HD box (ie higher definition) for £49, free installation, £30 M&S vouchers. So on the surface it looks like this is only £50 more than the deal above and you get HD.

Yet the subscription for HD is £9.75 a month more expensive, meaning over the year its actually nearer £170 more.

However, if you sign up for this deal via a special cashback website, you can get £120 cashback for it as well, that takes us back down to roughly the original £50 difference. Do remember though, while it usually works, cashback from cashback sites is never 100% guaranteed.

For those new to cashback, for more info on how it works see the Top Cashback Sites guide and to find the highest payer, the Cashback Sites Comparison Site.

Yet if you do have an HD TV, and want the HD box, it's a pretty good deal.
    What is Sky+

It's a hard-drive recorder which means you can live pause and rewind live programmes, and record things without tape. It's been called Sky's "killer application" and is rated by the Which? as the top box of its type.

Note there is no commercial relationship between Sky & MSE over this deal, as explained it's purely a 'sorry' for incorrect info given previously.
