wigginsmum wrote:Has the doctor prescribed mefenamic acid under the name Ponstan or Ponstel? If she starts taking this regularly a couple of days before she starts and carries on throughout, it should get rid of the worst pain. It's important though to prevent the cramps starting because they're very hard to stop once they've got going.
Thanks, but yes she has tried that, anti-sickness tablets and Migraleave all prescribed by the doctor with not much success, unfortunately she tends to throw up just after taking them. At the moment her periods are a bit erratic even though she has had them for nearly 3 years, the pain although bad, is not her main concern, the sickness is very disruptive with her school work & she is going to stay with a family in Germany in June so we would like to sort it out before then!
As regards the pill and cancer, no-one else in my family has had cancer and I have a group of fellow younger, breast cancer sufferers unfortunatley the only thing any of us have in common is being on the pill for a long time, so you can see my reluctance!Growing old is manditory, Growing up is optional! :j0 -
P.S. :j Just ordered Lady care from Avon, now only £10. Plus if you use code CSEP4 this gives you another £5 off! Total cost £7.95 including P&P!Growing old is manditory, Growing up is optional! :j0

It sounds like her hormones are out of whack. That's one to discuss with the doc but to be honest if she's young they'll be reluctant to interfere with that. What about the anti-travel sickness wrist pressure thingies? The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

Your daughter sounds exactly like me, I was really irregular and when they did come they were awful, I had cramps that went from my chest down to my knees and I was sick. I even left an art exam once cos my teacher thought I was about to fall off my stool. I persevered with mefenamic acid, I began to recognise a dull ache that signalled my period was about to start, and by taking the tablets from them, it meant that the cramps didn't get so bad as to make me sick. I also took soluble paracetamol as soon as I woke up to take the edge of the cramps so I could take the mefenamic acid without being sick (as the tablets are supposed to be taken with food). I ended up going on the pill as it was affecting my A levels, was on the combined but periods still painful so I went on the mini pill and my periods stopped straightaway and apart from a bit of spotting I haven't had a period since July, which has been amazing! Have you discussed your concerns about the pill with the doctor, as far as I know a conclusive link between the pill and breast cancer hasn't been found, it may be that women who are on the pill have more contact with their doctors, and may check their breasts more regularly, but I know that with your experiences you might feel the risk is still too great. When you go to Germany, there is a tablet your doctor can prescribe that will stop any period that may happen, this may be worth looking into if you're worried about it spoiling the holiday.

I suffered painful irregular period with prolonged heavy bleeding for 15 years. I went on the pill at 17 to try to alleviate symptoms, especially the heavy bleeding that was making me anaemic. I tried 4 different types of pill over a few years. Yes my periods were regular and lighter but the sickness and cramping was far worse. The cramps were exactly like labour pains!!
A newpaper article put me onto the herbal supplement Agnus Castus (Quest make). I have been taking it over 10 years. Now I just take 1 a day, but initially I followed the dosing guidelines on the package. My periods are still not a 28 day regular cycle but they are more regular than before. Bleeding is lighter but best of all they are pain free most months. The odd month I will suffer pain but it's mild and a painkiller soon sorts it out.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

Hi there, am intrigued about the Ladycare. Does it say if there are any side effects or adverse reactions? Am waiting for an appointment with Gynae due to heavy and painful periods, with fibroids and cysts! Would love to avoid an op if possible. We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.

Nope - no side effects, no adverse reactions. It's a bleedin' miracle (sorreeeeee!).
I wish I had found it years ago - still cant quite believe it is working. :j
