Problem is, i canT do the stopc0ck. If it were under a sink i would be ok, but its in a hole at the side of the road. To get to it i would have to lay on the road in a puddle. In the future we will have second stopc0ck put in just at the building it enters, but not yet:o

What about an in-line stopc0ck, like the one in this article, at the point where it emerges into the building or whatever?

    http://www.handymanknowhow.co.uk/plumbing/turningoffwater.htm

Cheap as chips and very easy to fit. Probably need a large size though, and no good if you are on iron.

I have one of those in the garage, just for one outside tap. The rest of my outside system is on plastic 25mm stuff with plastic shut off valves.

Swear filters are just there to be defeated. Remember, sjaypink used to use really strong swear words on this site, but I couldn't work out how she did it! :(

We've got well over 30 various stopc0cks plus some valves ...... & we're not on the mains.
As I've no idea which does what it would be a case of turning the pumps off & opening all the taps :o:rotfl:

You have my sympathies, alfie. We were in much the same position during one of last winters snow sessions. I can cope with most things but detest being cold. I seize up :(

Quite like some of the old swear words, like Lir I get 9issed off with the nanny filters. Enjoyed Tim Minchin on the royal variety getting a fair few anglo-saxons into his 3 minute song

Alf, not good about the oil :(. Trust you're wrapped up well in front of the fire.

Watching the forecasts to see if its ok to auction again tomorrow. Bit iffy atm.

Chooks are laying well again, they enjoy the stored apples which we thread onto an old coat hanger for them to peck, maybe thats helping.

Thanks rhiwfield. Loved the bit about the queen's stocking. Bet she howled (or whatever was there on her behalf).

I used to howl over a lot of medieval and Elizabethan literature taught by our straight-laced teachers. Was never sure whether they did not know or were experts at blank faces.

gosh...it will scare you !! it scares me !!

i use approx 500 litres for 2 months if i am in doors and its winter/dark/miserable etc. in the summer it will last 3 months.... SO lets say 1500 winter 1000 summer. =2,500ltr
7yrs ago it cost me £168 for 500 ltr NOW its £364 for 500 ltr and rising .............. so 5 x 364 = heart attack :D [approx 150 a month] BUT i can run what i like when its on ie tumble dryer etc [except iv not got one at the mo :(] 7 years ago it was practical ...now its expensive. in theory what iv spent [plus £3,000 for gennie] would have paid to have mains put on but i wouldnt qualify for a loan.:( so i just economise...
if i could get hold of a bank of BIG batteries and an inverter i could make it more economical but the outlay for the above would be about £1,500 and at mo.........impossible :o

thus endeth the sermon of the great power problem...:D:D
