Chooks are laying well again, they enjoy the stored apples which we thread onto an old coat hanger for them to peck, maybe thats helping.
Liked the video. Thanks.
The chooks make storing apples worthwhile. By now, none of those in the garage appear fit for human consumption, but the hens are loving them.
I still have some of the 'Half Long' courgettes from Real Seeds, which escaped under the leaf canopy and turned into marrows. Slices of those add a bit of variety too.0 -
thus endeth the sermon of the great power problem...:D:D
My oil CH now is a backup and used for early mornings, to get the chill off the house, till hopefully the sun comes up enough to keep the house at a reasonable temp (otherwise me and the son wear lots of hats and warm clothes) till it goes down again and I put the woodburner on.
But to live on a generator for all my power, this is something I've never had to deal with before.
You have my sincere admiration for living like that. I saw Ben Fogles house built on Grand Designs a few years ago and he relied on 12v lighting (with a load of batteries and PV panels), do you have any 12 lighting, or how do you do your day to day lighting?Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Lashing with rain here today
, yesterday it was dry and cold and I was so hopeful about getting out into the garden and getting things weeded and dug over but it is too wet for that now.
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
I'm going to try & burn some stuff before the snow flurries turn to rain, but I may fail.0

Snap davesnave. We have just come in, lit the burner and are going to go and try and burn some stuff outside before calling it a day out there until evening feeds etc. plenty to do indoors.
The breeze is really bitiong, such a change after the nice still days where the sun warms through depsite the cold air, but to day that wind nibbles at your cheeks visciously.
Anyone know how long this is meant to last? I am considering taking the dogs over to my parents house if its going to be a while.....0 -
I find Accuweather pretty good. Just put your postcode, village or town in the search.
The 15 day forecast for here shows little improvement, unfortunately
The wind is coming up here &, although it seems slightly less cold, the ice blocks I turned out yesterday still look pretty intact so it hasn't warmed up much.0 -

Its all in farenheit! Means nothing to me sadly. I do inches and pounds and oz, but celcius!0 -
Right hand side - choose Celsius
All the weather sites offer both nowadays0 -
Pouring down here but the ground's still hard. After a few really glorious days it's back to wet & windy alas. My dizzying seems to be easing - hope so as it's been hopeless.
Had to catch a hen & apply iodine to a wound - took two of us as it does with these things usually. Look like I'm back on the fags colour of my fingers!0 -
