LIR.... my days of dog grooming are well over... sold most of my equipment, and what i had left has now rusted down in the shed..
In the end i used to find after about 20 minutes my wrists used to ache, and then a burning sensation used to kick in, went to the doctors, and RSI had set in, and mild arthritis ... basically it was put up with it, and take Ibruphen all the time.... or change my job...
I still have to watch now.. as some times my wrists ache like made... plus some times the arthritis will kick in, maybe in my ankle, or knee, fingers etc....My fingers used to cease up in a claw type shape, for a few sconds.... but since i stopped grooming ( must be 10 years now) i only get it now and again...
We used to show bloodhounds... sealyham terriers, westies, and otterhounds.... we had champions with all of them except the otterhounds...
Do i miss it all???? honestly no... it was hard work and VERY expensive, plus i wanted a social life which included going out and meeting boys:D as most of the mens showing terriers etc were old enough to be my father/grandfather.
Anyway one day down, another to go with the african buyer.... yesturday i neally threw his money back at him, and tell him where to go... still might do that today.....
I have also verbally bought more chickens:cool: but shhhhh hubby doesnt know yet:D a trio of pol lavender pekins...Work to live= not live to work0 -
I only buy pork/bacon that has been British ( prefer Scottish if I can get it) raised because of the way European welfare standards are well below our own. I don't want to be part of the cheap meat brigade. I do not buy much supermarket meat but prefer to visit my local butcher. It isn't just welfare issues that cause me concern but also what the animal has been fed.
I would rather not eat meat if I couldn't afford to pay for decently produced meat. It's a no brainer for me.
The whole MacDonald's thing makes me sooooooooooo cross. The environmental impact of such huge companies is massive & makes me want to SSSSSCCRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEAaaaaaaammmmm.
Cheap sausages - people should be made to make them so they can see & smell what goes into 'em.
Another great thing about being here is that we've almost eradicated the need to go to the supermarket. Especially Tesco. We get fruit and veg from the grocer, eggs from the egg lady, home made jam and preserves and cakes from the cake lady, all at the local market. Bread from the local bakers... We stock up big time once every two months or so from Costco. Where we can't avoid using the supermarkets seems to be for milk, yoghurts for the kids and wholewheat pasta! I prefer Aldi to Tesco, though.0 -
I'm certainly no saint & because of cost I do shop at Morrissions a lot for my big 'un - my main shopping.
In Ullapool Tesco they sell prawns from Vietnam, weird fish from Indonesia - I think that's so mental as to be criminal really.
Absolute stotter of a day today - no rain - been 10" in January. The grounds frozen solid, but it's gloriously bright & that big orange ball is in the sky again.
CTC what is your business if that isn't too nosey to ask?0 -
Oh wow, all breeds i know v. Little about. I love discovering new breeds of critter or learning about them.0

Lavender pekins look beautiful! I'm still trying not to get ahead of myself on the thought of what livestock we could have. It's still daydream territory. When I let myself it's a couple of dogs first (I'm thinking standard poodles as I like intelligent dogs and am a bit allergic - but I do just like dogs, so who knows).
Good suggestion about the being able to put a chicken down. I'm not totally squeamish about these things and have put injured birds out of their misery in the past, so I know I'm capable of wringing a neck, although that was with smaller birds.0 -

Rozee, personally i would get birds before dogs, training dogs to leave birds they have known all their life is imo easier than training dogs who suddenly get new excitable fluffy CHICKEN toys!0 -
