Ctc, would dog grooming not bring a bitof extra cash in? I was looking for some one to strip big dog recently.....its always at the bottom f my list, or i get one leg or shoulder done before doing something else, and people wanted about £60. Big dog gets shaggier and shaggier!

A friend of mine who is a teacher grooms for extra cash, (also shows and judges) and does really good breed correct job...she will insist on doing big dog for me when i next see her, because she has been wanting to try doing one of those for ages...she also wants me to geta bedlingotn for her to clip,......but she is an hour or so away, and althoguh i would prefer a good breed correct job, i cannot justify getting a dog to drive an hour each way every six weeks, lol.

Ctc, what breeds did you show/judge?

    Aaaarrgghh!

    (Sorry!!!!:o)

Finally got through to HMRC HQ this morning on the 'phone, which is a miracle in itself. :A So, now I know why I've been unable to file our business return on-line.....

Basically, they've fouled-up. Fortunately, I've a letter giving us faulty info, so no wonder the web site keeps throwing me out. We can breathe easy, but when I think of all the wasted hours......

I'm not surprised. They lost my paper return in 2010, which was hand-delivered to the local office. Had to re-do it.:(

Never mind, the refund's going to be worth the wait....hopefully.

Elsewhere, hard frost at last, and what looks like a pleasant day to get on with things. :)

If you can train a dog to drive in any direction for ten minutes, you'll have overcome the financial constraints I'd imagine! :D

HI Guys, it's been a hectic few days and I'm trying to catch up on all the posts. Thanks for all the suggestions about the rooms - didn't think about the north facing thing, or about a pantry but that sounds like a really good idea. I'll add it to the list. I'll post our final wish list up here for your delectation :) in due course.

I've been busy because we've had one tenant move out and another wanting to move in and he's needed checking. Harder to do when you're at a distance and things never go to plan... Hopefully we'll get there by the end of the week, plus I've got a friend visiting, plus we've been trying to sort out the hard standing and the drains for the static...

The architectural technologist's assistant came along on Saturday to map the house and do a site survey. We're hoping that we can have some draft plans by some time next week.

    When's the panto, Dave?

Oh and I went to the farmers' auction in Newcastle Emlyn the other day. I'm not sure I can do the slaughter thing, y'know. I was only thinking that I might buy one of these cows and I started to well up about the prospect of sending her to slaughter... I'm beginning to settle on goose, guinea fowl, hens and ducks - for eggs :rotfl:

    I'm such a bloody townie!

You're not serious going to make that lovely pig into sausages are you, alfie? And, if you're not, how do you justify keeping her - other than the fact that she's bloody gorgeous :D (if my father could hear me - he's a Muslim)

I am confident mabel will never be sausages....she is alfie's baby....well, one of them!

Bear in mind with your birds, if you really are not prepared to have anything killed or to kill them you will be paying more for female birds older....becuase males and broody chickens make for babies, which mean more males, and fighting eventually.

Also, as gruesome as it sounds i really very strongly do recommend one of you learning how to kill a chicken. Injured chickens are often best put out of their misery swiftly,..a trip to the vet is for our sensibilities not theirs often enough. That said, with experience you will also find that the other best thing for chickens is to be left in a calm, dark place....its amazing what they can bounce back from.

You are going to have fun. Being self sufficient or even self sufficientish is not the day dream for everyone, and neither should it be. :). Having some eggs is a nice thing, birds are nice.

I think Mabel is probably safe :D. .......... all other niceties put aside, it would be like chewing old leather. :rotfl:
I don't know how old Mabel is but, given her size, I think she'll probably get a pardon :D

I think that's true and I also think I may have upset her by suggesting it.
    Sorry alfie :o

...... such as an oven? :D

Nah, kidding, best way to kill a chicken is to learn how to wring a neck, they die in seconds, although it's been so long since I had to do it, I'm not sure I can remember it perfectly tbh.
