choille... i know what you mean re the overcrowding with animals. im the biggest animal lover/keeper but i see it as a false love if the envoironment for them is wrong. i must admit im lucky in that my friend has the land and loves to see it go from empty to critters roaming. as long as i take care of them all she is more than happy. the facilities there are all top notch. i have never seen it as a chore ,i am SO in my element surrounded by animals.
re the travellers. i doubt thay are from dale farm. travellers have thier areas to travel and other travellers dont like "invading" travellers on thier patch. travellers fall into different catagories...... there are irish "tinkers" that come over and from my experience are not welcomed by others. they have "history"...... then there are summer travellers that go to houses for the winter and are just "following "tradition for the summer fairs. then there is the travellers that have no rules/morals/traditions and they amongst others are the problem. people put travellers under ONE umbrella but like for an example a housing estate that has a "bad name" there are SOME good people living in that community too...... i know a lot of GOOD [albeit del boys] gypsies that have morals.
watch out for any vehicles in the area and im sure you have your wits about you anyway not to fall for a sob story. good one is to get some empty gun cartridges and leave em visible near an entrance ie in a bucket by a gate..... put up some beware the dog signs... if you have any unwelcome visitors they may think twice. sounds like they are checking out the area as you suspect, scrap metal being first port of call... hopefully they will move on.

LIR...i agree ,i hate to see any animal on its own. i know horses find it very difficult . our minis just adore each other and the more the merrier in thier books !! ive hopefully arranged for a local gypsie chap to come catch RUBY for me. iv known them for years and trust them to be at my friends property !! [you will know what i mean there !]:)

i have just sold the car i bought for a £200 profit...not bad for sitting on my drive for 3 weeks !:D

iv decided i will spend the money on a kitchen floor and cooker instead:)

iv just walked round my garden and am amazed at what is re-blooming ! its crazy. ive got crysanths out ?? 2 marrows and aubergines are coming outside ?? its been really sunny and only rained at night. got 3 lots of washing on the line and am just off to get woodchip for the pups pen. i will see if i can get a large quantity arranged for you LIR. cant promise but will see "man in charge" at the pub gig tonight so will wait till he's "had a few" and ask him then [fluttering my aged eye lashes of course !:D]

a couple of my good MSE chums are from traveller or gypsy stock, and I havre to admit our settled gypsy community somewhere where I lived as a child made great neighbours: almost no crime, bec ause they knew anything in the area would be pinned on them, so they almost patrolled the area. That said.....I am often a little warier than my eperience should perhaps lead me to be. We have a lot of scrap about and old stone tiles etc...as well as stacks of pan tiles....I'm wary that we'd be a great target for any one light fingered...not soley travellers. I think the settled traveller neighbours (and I understand they are Irish traveller stock not the romantic Roma heritage) are probably pretty sensible about not piddling on their own patch. Depsite the solitude of the pony being IMO heartbreaking it IS better groomed than mine are, and as I say....its well fed and cared for.

I also worry about the dogs, a lot of travellers in the past mentioned they'd like one of our big dogs for breeding with, and dog dog is very pretty, either would be ''nice mother dogs'' for someone fancying big lurchers.....so I get a little wary.

    I want a doberman.

i remember when after my travelling days i returned with a lurcher . she was stag/saluki and my father took all the dogs out on the forest and got concerned when he felt he was "being followed". he started to increase his pace only to eventually just stop and face his "pursuer"...this puffed out lad said "sorry mate ,just wanted to admire your dog and see if you was gonna let er av pups"... :rotfl:

Lovely here today. It wasn't bad yesterday either, by all accounts, but we were up visiting the Outlaws.

As usual, we were far too late for timely locking up, so it was a huge relief to get a message while on the M5 to say that hens were in bed. What brilliant neigbours we have :)....and that one's almost a mile away! We didn't even say we'd gone away.

Anyway, opened the door at 8pm to be greeted by terrible smell of gas. No, we didn't put the lights on, just opened the doors and let the breeze do the rest. Must've knocked a ring on while wiping the hob....very houseproud, me! :rotfl:

So, having failed to blow the house up, I suppose we'll just have to renovate in a more conventional way. ;)

Dr says I will live, but I was most impressed with him and the local service.....20 minutes on a Friday pm! I get a further check up next week and then a follow-through on that once results are back. My Dr at the old place was very laissez faire by comparison.

Off to get RIRs now. DW had booked to pick them up when it would be near dark .....after all the hassle we had (rolling eyes smilley)

I'd have the shed/stable thing like a shot, but it won't go in me van! Besides, I'd better finish the jobs I still have outstanding.....:o

RIRs purchased and installed. They are pretty tame. Saw alpacas at the same place @ very low prices. Apparently the economic downturn has [STRIKE]crashed[/STRIKE] 'limited' the market.

In our 20s/30s we had one house re-built after a mystery fire. Not a great experience to come home to, nor much of a mystery; it was either a visitor's fag end or a dodgy TV repair. After the initial shock and the hassle of learning how to project manage, we really got into it and the re-furb was well worth the 6 months inconvenience. :D
