Never heard of kraienkoppe, so will have to Google. Our Welsummers are boring, but they go to bed on time and don't have 'issues,' so that's boringly well-behaved, really.

Neither had I. its not normally the sort of bird that does it for me....in fact, apart from the sicilians they all suggest a broadening of taste!

NEXT year, I'll get some partridge cochins. This just have been strung out this year. I do love the cochins, but also, and maybe most, my cochin hybrids. I also have the other rare breed on my list for next year. And I might try a couple of heavier laying hybrids. I had a short list somewhere but lost it and now can't find the cool hybrids I was looking for..and know so little about them not sure where to start.

choille...do you think you'll be in the house this winter?

Chickens survived the night but I'm keeping them intoday. Geese look a bit shocked to find themselves outside alone!

Wasn't allowed to leave boxes of clean jam jars outside shop by newish owner as she may have to take them to the dump herself. I did say I'd leave them a few days & if no one wanted them I'd recycle them. But some one way laid me in the car park & took them for their daughters wedding - not as strange as it sounds - they are for candles as it's in a derelict church! So there!

Joiners here & it's very windy indeed - worryingly so.
No The house won't be finished by Winter not even next one I doubt - huge job & we are only doing it as we can afford to - no loans. But we hope to get it wind & water tight soon & then we can work inside during bad weather.
The rains coming now - gggrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Been back at the house nearly a week. Lot of slug damage to the rainbow chard, some to the kale too. Have invested in some organic slug pellets for now, and will do some more chard seed if get the time. Managed to break my left little toe during Wed night, only found out from X-ray yesterday. So can't do much in the way of gardening at the mo. Next year we'll be doing the nemaslug treatment I think. Just wish it wasn't so expensive! With just the back yard at home it wasn't too painful, but here I think we'll need at least 2 lots of it each month just to cover the veggie bits at the end of the garden. But if it keeps the slugs at bay it probably pays for itself in the long run!

Sorry to hear of the toe - that must be annoying & also painful too. Hope it heals & mends quickly.

I used to go out & catch! slugs & snails where we used to live as it was so bad a problem. There were certain plants that they were always hiding under & I sorta used those as sacraficial plants in a way.

I rescued a perfectly lovely but very large metal lamp base from a box dumped outside a flat (change of tenancy). I could not home it myself and was about to get on the bus to take it (finally) to the hospice shop when the lady waiting with me commented on how gorgeous it was. I asked if she wanted it; you should have seen her face. She was grinning ear to ear when she got on the bus. Saved me time and effort.

    yep

the other one was when i was going to take a couple of old wire filing baskets to use on the allotment and the guy in the take away asked what they were. They ended up under the counter to hold the orders and reciepts which otherwise landed up on the floor several times a night. He was delighted and I got a very good deal on my meal.
