    Where you all gone?
I may not post much on here but I do like reading about what you're all upto, it's so much more interesting than my life in my little garden :D

Not really been up to much in the garden to report to you all. I have tried to pop out into it in the evening but life or the weather have got in the way :(. Ordered a wee heap of things from T&M including a set of 20 lucky dip flower seed packets so I am looking forward to seeing what I am going to get.

Hoping if the weather is reasonable to get a few bits and pieces planted in the raised beds this weekend.

I'm here too, but there hasn't been much to report.....

Yesterday I spent hours finding more bolts for the polytunnel, because the manufacturer had supplied the wrong ones. Eventually, a friend with local knowledge ran some to ground, but we had to wait for the owner of the emporium to return from the pub, which took another hour or so! The sign on the door might read "Open 8.30am - 5.30pm" but that means nothing around here! :rotfl:

Today DW and I managed to fit these last vital bolts and nail battens around the side & base rails to create rebates for the polythene. Our progress has been rather slow, but that's because the instructions are not as good or unambiguous as they first appear....:( Another day or so will see most of the preparatory work done though.

Yes, we have some decent red peppers now, and I've eaten a couple of chillies too. The courgettes continue to overwhelm us, as do the plums, while I almost dare not look at the squashes. There, 'Blue Banana' continues to impress, with a staggering amount of fruit per plant.....except I can't tell now where one ends and another begins! :o
  • My peppers are tending to rot internally when fully grown but still green.
I've grown them before and matured them to colour change.
I think it is just the problem of trying to grow everything in a domestic sized greenhouse.
The cucumbers have been magnificent this year - they like it as humid as possible.
Probably too humid/cramped for the peppers ?
[There is an amazing nursery up the Lea Valley that grows peppers up strings and has little scissor action trolleys running between the rows to pick the fruit as they get some 10 or 12 ft up in the air.]

    John.

PS What are blue bananas - I have had pink ones but blue?

We get earwigs, which seem to cut a hole and then live inside some of the peppers, causing them to go bad. I have never known a place with so many earwigs and ground beetles!

The Blue Bananas are on this page. We have Burgess Buttercup too:

I think its been an earwiggy year. We've had loads of them.

Its a beautiful morning here...almost forgotten how JOYFUL that can be. Heavy dewfall, but clear pale blue skies and a clean sunlight.

Makes a difference....I have enjoyed a leisurely stroll about the front garden with a coffee to survey the gaps.

My hollyhocks are finally out, and the wrong colour. They are pale, blousy pink and very double...not a hint of peach or salmon about them at all!

Yikes! The ones I gave you all had female sex linked markings when born! Have they crowed and grown tails??? (some of my girls have very ''male'' looking head furniture which can be deceptive).

what a depressing year....everything we kept was male (born with male markings or no definitive markings). Oh well.....maybe it will be all girls next year.

Poor puss. Beautiful lovely cat, I'm glad I met her.
