davesnave was right, false economy on the camera. In real life these colours are hot and fiery and bold. On the screen they look subtle and sensible.0 -

Download Picasa - free program to view photos and can alter basic stuff. You can adjust the colour temperature, which might bring out more of the hot colour. The red eye tool is good too. Also can straighten photos that are crooked (invaluable for me, my horizons always lean down to the left!). Very easy to use.
We just had a visit from DD2 and the GrandTwins for a couple of hours so are knackered. No gardening done this weekend, nothing for over a week now.
Weather still wet though less so, and a bit less windy, but still didn't tempt us out.

I have a question
with delphiniums, as soon as they have flowered the first time I snip them and let them reblooom. will this worth with verbascums? (I have carribean crush and a smaller one) and lupins?0 -
Excuse the literal back of envelope scrawl...but this is the veg garden area (phase one) as I've tried to describe. The question I always face is how to arange bes in the area messily labelled ''what here''. The soft fruit beds are theroetical, atm they are banks of weed eitherside of a sunken muck heap. The wall is the back of a silage clamp. Orientation is as one might traditionally expect. Is it thought by other dreamers that the best ting is a simple progression of raised beds in a row is as ''pretty'' as I can get? I can easure depth of area tomorrow. At narrowest I'd say 2-3 metres, at widest maybe five?

Edit: can you face an ornamental garden plan critique too? Or shall I give you a few days?

LIR....is this the area roadside with the wall of the "rebuild " being the 18m?? with yard/barns behind that?
what is the soil like? i personally would take the turf off,if not already, and get a rotavator on it,deep as poss...then start laying some horse poop, and mulch. leave for a while, watering it then rotavate again...while this is happening take time to choose plants. if you intend to put a yew hedge along front be aware that NOTHING grows well within 6ft min of a mature hedge. i would start with some good strong roses, some colourefull low shrubs for ground shade, so roses rise above.. then pop in some self seeding plants that will fill gaps and also things like lillies to spread, iris, any daisy type look lovely and last all summer. you dont want color for ONLY a short while...only my thoughts...you know me i chuck everything in and let it get on with it ! i dont "do" organised !!!!0 -

Its the bit further towars field than that, between th silage clamp an the ''pond'' (the old slurry pond)! Its going to be a veg garden, 9ts just trying to work out if their is something less prosaic than a row of beds.something more like your friend beuatiful veg plot that would fit in the long space
The photo is from that bit in front of rebuild wall though0 -

Lir, this is like trying to read an old treasure map when you've just broken your specs!
If this is to be fruit and veg garden then I think some formality of design/symmetry is pleasing to the eye as crops are dug up/sown and it really helps to make it practical to manage. I just love the design of old kitchen gardens!
If its to be ornamental then I've no idea :rotfl:0 -

No, this bit is veg....but its an awkward shape isn't it? confouning that I want to keep a track for tractors (running next to the ''new bed'' towards the east (where there will be a gate) and to the hatched area.
Treasure map....:D:D the lucky place to end up for a gardener is the hatched area....the muck heap!0 -

Yes it is awkward!
Maybe something like this, maybe with an extra circle might give symmetry and structure yet stay practical. And maybe not0
