Not been here for a long time....money has been very tight so haven't managed to put much away but saved huge €100 this month so at least things are moving, however slowly.

Strangely, after the awful winter, my wild garlic is bursting up at present, love using some of it in salads and stuffing. Onions we sowed in autumn seem to be doing fine, all I need now is to get some decent weather to get out and do something or wrap up well and get out anyway. OH sowed seeds in greenhouse and they are all getting to stage of needing to be moved on, to-morrow I hope, also need to sow more tomatoes, peas and beans and a few trays of annual flowers.

Congratulations to all of you who are so industrious and organised, I think that my brother got that gene in our family!

I realised when I typed that that it didn't sound very MS but it is the only bit of the garden where we have ceramic pots and we use it so much for entertaining and family time in the summer that I want it to look a certain way. I am not making apologies just thinking in text.

I feel the same way Rummer. There are parts where mse is vital, but if the house and buildings are to be used for some of our purposes they have to look ''worth the money''. Our composters can be our own poor diy pallet affairs, but the garden has to look a bit lux at some point in the future.

I'm trying to design a gate that gate be scaled up and down for use through out the place, from 6ft tall courtyard gates to a small pedestrian gate, short, and as barn doors. I wish we could build these, we'd save a fortune!

terrible, just two drops of wine passed my lips, (I run dry the first three months of the year, but tasted the house red and white for future record..neither were worth jumping off the wagon for). I think just getting clean and out had gone to my head. ROFL.

when we eventually went to bed we decided that we wouldn't let the cats ''in the middle'', so squooshed together, wrapped our legs in knots and arms round each other and resisted the pleadings and scratchings at the duvets of the cats....offering the alternative of either side of us. we woke up with two smug cats....in the middle!

That happens to us - two cats in & out all night but OH draws the line at in the middle - they both have to squash down on my side - not a lot of room in a caravan bed.
Gosh it's all bright white on the tops this morning & the sky is that white, laden with tons of snow look, about it - oh nooooooooooooo.
  • hi everyone, i have spent the last two days reading threw the thread, and wondered if you would mind me joining :) im not the most clued up on gardening but i willing to read and listen :) After spending what seemed forever in a flat hubby and i moved into a bungalow a few years ago, last year i dug a veg patch but didnt get a lot so determing to be beter this year, there is only me whom eats normally hubby is fed via peg so the veg and fruit is just for me and the guinea pigs and bunnys really :o and i want to be able to store exrtras for the winter months. To be honest I couldnt do the small holding sizes that some of you have got as theres just me to do it all, but to me I have my slice of heaven i just want to get more out of it :D I have dug half of the veg patch over but rain has stoped play at the mo

there has been changes since we now have a 6 foot fence around it as new neighbour cut down all trees and bushes in her garden which left ours very exposed and no privecey and i now have a rose arch but the bones of the garden are the same :)

    Sorry for waffling on :o

Welcome WWP, I'm sure you'll be very welcome! OH and myself have a garden rather than a small holding - we'd be useless at anything that big, I've got M.E. so can't do much in the garden, usually sow the seeds and do a bit of gentle potting on.

Looks as if you've got a good sized veg bed there. :) What are you planning to grow?

Hi WWP and welcome aboard. I just have a garden too but as the thread title says, for me anyway, a smallholding
is just a daydream. I can't cope with my garden never mind anything bigger! lol

Well I did something today that I have never done before and I have no idea why I did it! I went to a meeting
where some other residents want to set up an area Community Group. There is so much going on in my area but
I have no idea what's happening when! But it seems that whatever is happening is either not applicable to me i.e.
Mother/Toddler groups, coffee mornings (weekdays - I'm at work), or stuff that I'm not interested in like Tai Chi (sp?)
or WeighWatchers I can't afford to pay someone else to watch my weight and tell me what to eat! I don't know what I
was expecting and I'm not sure what I have to offer. As I said, no idea why I went! I choose not to mix with people now.
I could quite easily be agorophobic (and I mean just outside never mind open spaces), but the mortgage has to be paid so
    I go to work.

I think my head might be a bit messed up but nevermind I'm not hurting anyone and I'm happy and content in my world.

Anyway, teatime so see you all later,

    Poo
