Rummer/choille, weather looks a bit grim up there!

    Cyclura, welcome!

Lir, I'm all logged out. Heath Robinson would be proud of this scrapheap shambles, the only consolations are that it does the job and it didnt cost a penny to make (except for the temporary tarp). Got the material for the roof as well but thats a next week job. Green wood is 50% cheaper than seasoned round here, so it makes sense to make time work for us for nowt and our main store only takes 2 cu metres.

We'll have to wait and see whether it will dry enough for burning for next winter.

    Hi Cyclura and welcome.

Rhiw that's a beautiful woodstore! And I agree with Rummer - more pics please!

Actually, I always agree with Rummer and Rummer seems to know what I want to know before I know I want to know it so whatever Rummer says I ditto from now on!

I forgot to mention, has anyone else noticed how many of us on this thread post on the other thread that Rhiwfield created "If Push Comes To Shove...?"?

It's kind of like our sister thread I think. Like this is the inspirational thread and that is the practical thread sort of.

Cyclura, you may want to check it out if you haven't already, link:

    That thing!! :eek::eek::eek:

    Bit happier with this one.

Just think that our house and garden have to work for us, not just shelter but as a contributor of food, energy, water as well. And we leave a bit of room for ornamentals, though I love just as much the sight of apple blossom and the sweet peas flowering amongst the scarlet emperor beans.

WOW! Rhiw that one's even more beautiful!!! I would love that in my garden as an ornament (as I don't have a woodburner or fire).

I absolutely love pallets, they're so versatile and free most of the time! I've made a couple into sort of raised beds. I'll have to post a pic when I get it set up (though nothing has been done in the garden since last year!). I basically cut the 3 legs of the 2 pallets off which made 6 rectangular boxes the same size as the depth of the pallet but without tops or bottoms. If you lay them on the ground they are the same area as 2 pallets laid on the ground. I need to screw them together then I'll plant veg inside and use the box bits around the outside to plant small flowers. Will it be ok to creosote them given that I'll be growing food in them?

I am totally with you about getting the garden to earn it's keep. It's one of the few "rooms" in your property that can without needing planning permission or losing some of your privacy (by taking in a lodger).

So garden, garage and spare bedroom = moneyspinner!

    I've been Money Tipped!
I'll try and get some pictures of our wood later in the summer....its just in a barn tough ;)

Not finished todays list but DH and I are going on a date tonight so called it a day ...I need a couple of hours too wash and dry hair...find a bra with a wire in it ;) andsok my feet before going out.

I THINK tomorrow will see the end of the wood from the coach house. Now, if only we could afford more for the new roof on the coach house I'd be very happy: it will house a carriage we hope, and be the garage, a workshop, tool store, wood store and dog kennel and wash down room/outdoor loo one day in the distant future we hope. Also got an area finally cleared (concrete) to sweep and use for the event next month. AND another bonfire. Raspberry canes still need to find a home but some rhubarb crowns are in....oh, how hard it will be to resist the rhubarb this year. Another 6 feet or so of bed dug, and, importantly...tempus fugit....a big hole dug for the little caci tree we hope will like it here. He's the sole survivor of three. In front of a south facing wall.....lets hope!

The plum suckers and seedlings we moved last summer...all but one are budding. A success I think.

Well the tomatoes are sown at last, into pre warmed compost in the propagator, good tip that, warm up the compost first.
I somehow managed to get the labelling wrong right at the start, but I think I managed to sort it out. I hope I did, the two I mixed up were bush for pots and cordon for garden :D

Here's my woodshed. Made from recycled materials, apart from the roof.
