I was looking at the planting instructions for planting my blueberries and it says planters with a minimum 60cm diameter which are coming in at scary prices! Have any of you successfully grown them direct in beds?lostinrates wrote: »A big get well kiss to you Lotophagus. what's up?Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

Ahh, I've had a few panics about my health since Jan and they are now wondering whether to lock me in a padded room, or stick me on some sort of knock out drops. Neither look very appealing tbh
No, neither do. Be good and take care. Say I, sitting here with a duff back and left leg today. I'm hoping to drag the leg out and start a bonfire this afternoon: burn some more of the coach house roof. I really wanted to get more done this week.0 -

I guess I will have to do that and just place them in a less obvious part of the garden. Then I can get lots of pretty containers and fill the patio with flowersLotus-eater wrote: »Ahh, I've had a few panics about my health since Jan and they are now wondering whether to lock me in a padded room, or stick me on some sort of knock out drops. It is frustrating when the options they offer all seem unworkable. Sometimes it is just a case of trial and error which seems to take forever, remember if you are unhappy to get a second opinion.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

Rummer, I too am looking for suitable pots for various places. I need REALLY big ones for the courtyard, but don't want to spend too much. I'd prefer to have terracotta but I'm worried about these hard winters and pots that will be permanently planted and left out.0 -

I have two great big plastic ones that figs re now in. Big enough for a person to get in....and thats the sort of size I want...but they are pretty expensive and TBH....as they age they look a bit more plasticky..but one also becomes a bit more fond of them.0 -
I have found ones that are big enough and they are on sale at Wilkinsons 60 cm x 39 cm but how do I calculate the amount or soil I will need to fill each one?Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

so if you think outside the box, and think big containers that you make LOOK like stone pots???0 -
I tend to fill the base of planters with stones/rubble to save on soil/compost also gives weight - added stability in the gales.
I use any old stuff as planters. Someone reversed their car over my nice metal watering can which caused the base to pop out/leak so that's now a planter. I found a wooden box in the byre that says 'Rockets' on it - think it was for flares as the previous owner was a fisheman - infact he drowned atthe bottom - creepy!
I have the lick buckets that I may plant up with trees that I don't want & try & sell bigger uns at the top of the road - not that I made any money last year from gate sales. Phew! All that barrowing stuff up the track - arms on me like Popeye I have! Or did until the Winter sit.0
