Totally agree Davesnave, I have learned alot, so it hasnt been time wasted, this cottage has taught me a few things, and also made me look at things from a different view..

Did anyone watch the british food revival on BBC2 last night?

I found htis really interesting, next week it is covering potatoes and pork.... would be great if this programme had a knock on effect for smallholders/farmers etc, maybe with more farm gate sales etc...

Still blowing a gale here.... going to have an eye test this afternoon....about time i think, as i have been buying the cheap reading glasses, which i think has done more damage than good...

My OH says that you can't really do damage to your eyes with cheap glasses, even if they aren't perfect for you. But obviously it's better to get the right ones for you. I had bad headaches for years for having the wrong glasses, it's not something to save money on, to the degree where it hurts you.
That's what I think now ..:rotfl:

Thank you so much for all the information related to the compost :D. Looks as if I will have to bite the bullet and cough up for compost this year and really make an effort to produce enough for next year. I will also have to get leaf mulch sorted can't afford to not be MS in the garden.

thats what the optician guy said....

I told the guy i just felt like sleeping/closing my eyes all the time, it wasnt a headache, but the front of my head felt heavy so to speak, and it was because i was straining my eyes, by only using the shop bought glasses some of the time..

my 'proper' glasses' should be ready on the 21st march...

had a walk round the town then ( its rare now i go to town) and it cleared the cobwebs away.. went into morrissons ( cant seem to give up supermarkets completely:cool:) plus there is no fruit and veg shop in the town,
bought some lamb pieces, a chicken and some of their 30p offers of the week...lol... bought a leek, as i wanted to make lamb and leek curry, and then some cawl with the rest of it.. and my jaw nearly hit the floor when the weight price of the leek came up.. 54p for a scrawny leek, which wasnt that fresh....

stroll on the day where i can have plenty of room to grow most of the veg we eat:rotfl:

right a cuppa is in order me thinks before i start peeling those onion:eek::D

I've BEEn looing at hives today to order. Another ruddy cost that will take forever to pay back I daresay.

I am often horrified at the prices of fresh food CTC and every time I see the cost of rhubarb it reminds me why I am growing my own!

It has been snowing on and off here today  so I have not been out in the garden as I have a lot of digging to do and the ground is just too wet for me, I am feeble :o.

However I have been merrily washing pots and planting seeds which is very theraputic and it always makes me :D when the seedlings make their first appearance.

Looks like the first free seeds of the season have started, I do like getting new types to try for free and they are always put to good use in my garden.

Does anyone else have a problem in relation to the collection of gardening books? I seem to be developing quite a stash of them and I always come away from the library with a couple too :o

this any good to anyone? Its a shame they don't cover further north. Its too small for me(I need a standard sized building and might see how much extra it would cost), and they demand level ground...I wonder how much it would cost to get the area levelled? I'm concerned that what they consider a barn wouldn't have enough height for my needs. If anyone comes across any others that might be more suitable pleas let me know!

Gale force winds all through the night & snow that isn't laying but it is bitter & the ground is like porridge - again. Doing all the yucky paperwork stuff that's been gathering in piles - not got it all down as that is impossible but making a mark on it.
Getting a decent show of eggs so quiche for tea - yum.

The ground around our house is CRACKED! and the horses are breaking done the poached ruts in to smooth poached bits, so the rain here is no bad thing...apart from the pond over flowing worries. Can't believe we were wading just days ago. House f course might be subsidence!

Wind been really howling round since yesterday evening with intermittent heavy sleety showers. Cold as well. Yuck.

Interest version of the free solar roof LIR - they are after the FITs of course.

choille, glad the chucks are performing - days getting longer at last?
