I actually managed to sow my chillies yesterday, better late than never I suppose. I've not really been very well for a few weeks and am struggling to do anything. Need to get on and sow my toms next. I do have them sorted out, I think I've got 7 types this year, a few new ones.
Maskotka instead of the usual Garden pearl in pots.
Matt's Wild Cherry tomato, which says it may have some resistance to blight.
Cuor di bue, for tomato sauces instead of Italian Roma style, which I always seem to have problems with.
Black Cherry, which just looks nice.

As well as those, the usual Ferline, Gardeners Delight and Tigerella.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

Sorry to hear you have been feeling ill.

Choille sad to hear about the loss of your boy.

The weather here is cold and rainy again and I am starting to get strung out about getting my fruit bushes in. I don't have the car atm so I haven't been able to go and get compost for the pots or for the blueberry bushes, just anxious that they all die :(

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-12709598

flip it puts your life into pospective sp? and the area/country we live in...

Just wondering what type of economic effect this will have on the country and the world in general...

they have also put other countries on a tsunami alert, including Austrailia... one country ( sorry cant remember at the moment) is so low lying that the tsunami could potentially ocver the whole island

Sorry but i am just feel as though i am bumbling at the moment...

Yes, it does give us all pause for thought.

Japan hasn't had such a good time economically in recent years. It's bit early to know what the overall effect of this will be for them. Won't be good if they have a problem with any of the nuclear plants either. :(

I saw a theory the other day that the close proximity of the Moon ATM might have an extra effect as regards earthquakes.

Good photo Dave - My how neat everything loks.

The Japan thing is terrible. There was a bit in Saturday's Guardian about increase in sun spot activity & that usually is an indicator of Tsunamis - and this increase wasn't expected for another 12 years.

Mrs Chuckles - not normally phased by stuff but she had started to peck herself to death. I treated her & house for infestation etc. It was hideous & I've never seen this sort of thing & never want to see it again.

Gaardening still not on the books as too cold & still half asleep after gales & hail but obviously nothinglike japan which seems really devastating - must stop watching rollingnews as it seems voyeristic & unhealthy.

I was looking at the planting instructions for planting my blueberries and it says planters with a minimum 60cm diameter which are coming in at scary prices! Have any of you successfully grown them direct in beds?

I was hoping to put them on my patio area so they had protection from the weather over the winter and I am not keen on that kind of look in that area. Maybe I need to have a rethink about where I put them?

Rummer they are very hardy. Mine are in the ground & did have a heck of a hard winter. But although my soil suits them, they don't do much. I may dig mine up & replant in a raised bed - although I do suspect that badgers or pine maartens are nicking the fruit - as they do. All the unripe blackberries disappeared off my thornless bush last year. Martens gorge on Rowan berries & then sick them up as they give them belly ache!
