I offered for a community good deed this week too...I'm hoping that I wasn't the only one to and that someone else really WANTS to do it. I have a feeling this one is a double edged sword!

Ouch, no one else did and I have secured my community ''job ''a monthly deal with a need for anonymity, sharp wit and a sense of where the line not to cross lies. The wit should be worrying but its the sensibilities of my neighbours that's worrying me more.

    1. is the school teacher producer of said panto going into meltdown, rooted in her producers chair flailing her arms round in silence trying to prompt/direct/emphasise the cast !!:rotfl:

    2. scenery wobbling,/ breaking/not working/falling apart...:rotfl:

    3. participants completely forgetting the plot/cues/props:rotfl:

4.the queen of wardrobe having a hissy fit with a 9 yr old cos her pony tail wasnt right [in her opinion!] to wich i stepped in and rescued the poor girl from an unecessary ear bashing  [i dont think im on that ladies xmas card list now!:rotfl:]

    5. the "band" [being 2 elderly gents with a set of drums and a keyboard] displaying all the charms of pre war holiday camp duo [but lovely!:)]

    6. in other words ,all in all ,got the makings of a very funny ,if not articulate , PANTO...

    7. i think any one with a degree in counceling will make a fortune if they wait in the wings...:rotfl:

Our panto was great fun, but we seem to have quite a few talented thespians in the village, which certainly helps. I've not been party to the rehearsals, so I don't know if there were any scenes like the one you describe, but knowing those involved, I doubt it.

Having worked on many children's productions, I can tell you that the best way to get good performances from people is to introduce competition, by having two casts, as evenly balanced as possible.:D With kids that's essential anyway, because there's always one who gets a bug or total stage fright.

I once did a musical where a girl with a major solo, forgot not only the words, but the tune as well. Wouldn't have been so bad, but I shot videos! Of course the poor child couldn't have that being reproduced 70 times for posterity, so that meant I had to edit every single copy, dropping in the alternative actress from the previous night. Cost me dearly in summer holiday time! :(

Alfie, it looks like I've got six girls for you, the chicken seems to have four girls under her (first time mother, first time broody and so far doing well...I don't usually expect that) and two girls and a boy inside ATM. Poor little boy. I wish there were some way to know in the egg.

When I buy in stock I like to by from breeders who show. The birds are often more expensive but I have birds with good straight feet (actually I've taken birds with poor feet who've had no turn out and they've come right in the past) and perfect beaks. when the flock gets big I don't want to spend time sorting out over bites/underbites: a gruesome job IMO. Making sure I know who is who so that I don't get inbred chickens is a bit of a time, especially as these are so brave now and wander quite far from the yard. These little chicks, like their parents, look beautiful. :) I'm trying to not get too attached to this clutch.

LOL. Its a wonderful time of year, but not always easy. I have a decision to make about the boy soon....he's 75% legbarr so not going to be great eating and not of value as a breeding bird. Plus, you do get deaths. First time mother hens often make mistakes..or can be surprised and horrifed when a fluffy chick replacesTHEIR baby egg and sees it as an imposter, and things like the beautiful little girl who didn't make it yesterday. The cats and dogs sit hopefully by the door listening to chirping that to them means ''snack''.

It IS miraculous and never boring, but chick hatching is really,IMO,for fewer people than chicken keeping is.

If I could let them free range I would have them but our garden is not secure and we have a lot of foxes and my cats would be keen to play with them too!

It may be our best day of the year so far; wall to wall sun and hardly a breath of wind. Definitely shirt weather, but not t-shirt until I start digging again!

Put in another batch of seeds this morning, but it'll get tight in a month when they all start growing. Of course we should have had the new polytunnel, :o though I'm very grateful to have saved the old one.

A friend has just taken two of the currant bushes we took out with the digger, so they'll get another lease of life a mile up the road. :) I'm hoping that the cuttings I took of them grow on OK. We would have relocated the bushes, as we did a couple of trees, but the ground for the next fruit area won't be ready any time soon.

Pouring with rain here and blowing a gale! I really need to start gardening in bad weather or I am never going to get everything done. Still haven't made it to the greenhouse and I have a pile of bushes that really need to be planted.

The cats would want to play with them, until they tried to play with them ;)
Then they would discover the meaning of scaredycat :D
