    good evening.
    welcome newbies !!

well, i am now getting more eggs per day :T

i had a mystery the other day... a buzzard tried to take a chook BUT it chose the biggest fattest hen i have. the lawn was a puff ball of feathers everywhere but the hen walked off just minus all its rear feathers :rotfl:shouldnt laugh but the hen walked off with such a grandeur !!

iv had panto tech team rehearsals this weekend....why when you just KNOW that something isnt going to work [logistics!] are we too afraid to say anything for fear of being thought a know all !! then smuggly say "oh yes" under our breath when your proved right :D

i went to THE nursery and yes they went into administration but they survived, just cut back on the import stock. they didnt have much there to be honest as they are starting again sort of...

i cant find ONE young ewe tree out in my woods ??? do deer eat them ? cos they were there !!:o

our geese are just laying and starting to sit

the silkies [x2] are sitting on eggs and one of my cochin bantams is sitting too.

my DS has told me he wants to buy his own place this summer so much as i will miss him i will also NOT miss the towels, trainers, cups ,plates etc that seem to become nomadic and just loiter around where not intended !!hey ho ...kids:)

i bought a chair ,edwardian, from the tip for £5 and sold it next day for £25. I sold 3 of the "AUCTION" pictures and that covered cost of ALL of them, sold linen and made 300% so quite happy at the mo !!
should get back into my dealing/selling mode...

well u all seem mega busy in the veg dept, i must crack on and get more in, just panto has taken up spare time !

I'm still reading folks! I'm really behind on my planting as life's a bit manic at the moment. I'm doing overtime before and after work everyday as we've got a massive project on, and I'm the only person willing to do extra hours (it's all extra pay! ;)).

I'm also spending every available minute in the sewing room as my business is starting to pick up and DS2 has finally built me a holding page for my website so it may get even busier.

The hens have remembered how to lay eggs so there is now enough to sell some again, so they will be cost neutral over the 8 or 9 months. The allotment has been ignored for a couple of months so we need to get into gear and get down there. I just feel that I'm slipping backwards on a very slippery slope at the moment :(:(

Reallly like this thread. Thanks to you all. I LOVE those summer piccies rhiwfield. It was almost painful to feel the longing for summer - light, warmth and the smell of a meadow on a hot day.

I don't have the physical strength or health to pursue an 'external' daydream. If I had, then I would have loved to have grown food and 'work the land' in some way.

I live a quiet life and just rest and relax as much as possible in the midst of life's challenges. I enjoy reading all the adventures on this thread though. In another life maybe.....

Re hay meadows v silage fields of today...depends wht you mean by productive. Yes, todays rye grass single variety field all mature at the ame time, grow fast and allow multiple cuts of nutritious fodder..but...try grazing on 'em! For those of us wanting ''slow food'' we must expect to pay for things like two cuts rather than more for cows to eat and that some of that might mean lower product produced per animal...but generally speaking a better life (mixed grass generally can mean more turn out). Mind you, neighbours organic cows came in late last year, are out early this year...and he still has run out of food.

Diversity in grass land for most of us is a good thing, but not those buttercups davesnave!

Chick batch number one is hatching as we speak. Alfie....you've got first call if you still want some, how many? I can grow them on for you, what age do you want them at? Soon as this lot are out (nd stupidly I did a mixed bath so I'm turning by hand the rest) I'll disinfect and get another batch on.

How much do you lot think I could sell lilac seedlings for? I'd need some pots ...I might stick a notice out asking for old plstic pots....if s, what should I disinfect them with?

We got the HIDEOUS pyrocantha out yesterday, another tree....lst one for a while, and about twelve feet of border out. Found an old trough which I thought might work at the back slopey bit of the soft fruit garden-to-be where I'm trying to work out how to keep soil in, then I can plant more raspberries into this.

I need to get a cage built, but I don't see ow when or with what. we tried to get the dogs to come upstairs so that we could go t bed early and have them wake us if they needed to go ut but I've done too good a job of training them. we had to wait up until ten, at which point we CRASHed and slept thrugh the alarms. We're both walking like gardeners this morning!

Please push the spam button for sanly's post. (They sound more like 'insan(e)ly' )

Edit. No need to disinfect pots normally lir, but any household stuff would do, surely. As for price, don't expect lilac suckers to walk off a stall as they take a fairly long time to grow, and when they do, they get too big for some people's gardens, hence the modern mini varieties! I assume they are suckers rather than seedlings, as the latter wont be true to type. I'd only ask about £1 but then I don't like them anyway, except for the two weeks when they flower!

Thanks davesnave! £1 sounds good for what otherwise is waste. :) I thought I'd need to disinfect for nasties coming into the garden...and the suckers (I haven't dug any up to see roots yet but I'm presuming they'll be suckers not seedlings....) will as much as anything show something on the stand out there....plan to get that up before our first ''event'' here ...never Know, I might sell something. I'm also thinking about cut flowers....sweet peas are always popular, and maybe lilac might be...though some consider it unlucky in the house I love it cut. 50p a bunch?
