Be very afraid! I became a First Aider when I was in my mid 20s, and from that point on, I used to dread coming upon situations where I would be bound to act and, if necessary, assume control.

And come upon them I did! I won't bore you with the details, not even the night I ended up ferrying a semi-naked female back to her parents in Swindon, as I know lir has heard that one before, but maybe it was all coincidence anyway. One would be bound to do something, regardless of First Aider status, and the background knowledge did come in very useful; in fact it still does. :)

I'm afraid didn't renew my certificate when the three years were up, though. :o

i got offered the chance to do my 1st aid course when i had my shop [making me the only one who would have one in the village which was a hit with tourists!!alas i didnt twig this at the time!!] it was a "business" only course and i got a free space as someone dropped out....and yes whenever someone hurt themselves in the village, they sent for me and to be honest i used more "knowledge " from my treatment of animals!!:rotfl:. i did get quite a few box of thankyou chocs and flowers tho.... most "treatment" involved a cup of tea and a sit down ?? couple of ambulance just in case calls...
i was also the LOST DOGS home aswell. as we were on a riverside walk it was incredible how many people temporarily lost thier dogs.. i always seem to have dogs sat quite happily in the shop till claimed by relieved owners!!:)

i used to sell dog figurines as a side line in my shop and from my bedroom window i could see various breeds of dogs going on "the walk" so id nip downstairs and put THAT breed model in the shop window and wait till thay returned and 50% bought the model to match thier mutt:D

Thanks Dave and Alfie. It is a bit scary the thought of having to take control. I am no leader but I reckon I'd make a great second in command as I'm better at taking orders than giving them.

I've had my first [STRIKE]victim[/STRIKE] err I mean patient at work. It was Christmas Eve, we'd been told we could leave early and the patient hit his head. There were no gloves in the First Aid box and the previous First Aider just dove straight in (she knew the patient much longer than I have). He didn't want a bandage, just wanted to get home! I spent most of Christmas Day (when at home) wondering if I'd get a knock on the door from the Police because I was the one responsible for allowing someone, who could potentially have concussion, to drive home. I prayed that he'd got home safe and not fainted at the wheel taking out numerous vehicles on the motorway.

I'm not squeamish about blood but I do get emotional (I feel others pain as though it was my own) so I hope I can help where necessary.

    (*&%^**&() mud.

    Hate it.

Swept a bit this morning and realised I was moving a lot for little reward so gave up. Can't check legs or feet properly and its too cold to fairly hose them.

Have ignored outside today since then almost entirely. Housework and cooking today.

Me too. I did get back to digging the plot yesterday, but wind and horizontal rain today has made me lurk inside. Even DW has settled to date-filing all the receipts, and similar  paperwork jobs.

Yesterday was 11/11 in egg production for the hens. :) We also put the surplus eggs on sale for the first time. Haven't been exactly overwhelmed by demand so far! Some free sacks of feed found their way here over the weekend, so at least they aren't costing us more than a bit of Verm-X ATM.

Hurrah chickens! It feels good doesn't it? :) The rain only just got here really. The good news is the wind cleared up some of the yard, so it doesn't look swept, but neither does it look as forsaken as it did this morning. That wind is rocking. Its funny, its Jaunuary weather...nly milder. That rain should feel like razor blades in this wind but it just felt....wet.

Rummer....I'd like to know what do you think of verm-x as parasite control for various species? I've also been wondering if you could't make a second income as a parasite control consultant on yards and small holdings?

And while you're thinking about that ( :) ) am I doing right by using fresh garlic cloves crushed in water for internal parasites, a couple in normally but 5 cloves every six weeks or so?
