much cooler here this morning, which is brilliant for us as now we can get more work done at work,..its been too hot to hit our daily targets..

we have 8 chicks so far:j, all of the blue pekin eggs hatched, and so far 2 of the lavender ones, so really pleased...they are sooooooo small compared to normal chicks..lol.

it is so true, you must lose site of what you got around you, but it is hard when you have been day dreaming of something for so long... even the smallest negative about the place you live can feel like a huge fault.

is anyone good at making spreadsheets? i want to start writing down where my daydream fund money is coming from... like jean sales... wages...bank account interest... and free fivers from Halifax and Bank of Scotland ....ebay sales....etc.. with a grand running total

so i can look back to them, and find out where i can push to make more money etc...

its suprising the people who want to have land etc, also like cookng, crafting etc... a typical old fashioned home maker style person...

as i love cooking, i can knit, but allways seem to mess up fancy stitches:rolleyes: so the basic plain and peal girl me...lo.. love crafting, and re-vamping old furniture

Hope everyone has a good day... and can put a few pennies in their pots, whether it is to save or pay off a bill, its all heading in hte right direction...:T

edit.....to keep us focused, has anybody got any ideas of little mini challenges to get some pennies in that we can all do together?

i will start with a few suggestions..

    a mini daily click challenge

a mini weekly/monthly free daily bingo scratch card challenge

    monthly ebay challenge

no spend sunday./or no spending for 3 days a week for a month?

    so any suggestions/ideas?

    Good morning all

Just a quickie before I go to vote in the Euro elections. I am applying for a job with one of the local MSPs so fingers and toes crossed as its a job that I really want as well. Hubby is applying for jobs as well so fingers and toes crossed that we can both get a decent job to help the current situation.

The garden is starting to really take shape, hubby laid some paving stones that we got from my mum and dad round his raised bed and put some gravel (also donated lol) in the gaps and I have to say it looks pretty good. He has made a plan of the garden and included some decking, most of it will still be grassed for the kids to play on but there will be loads of room for my millions of pots that will be dotted around the place lol.

Right am off and will see you all later. Cooltrikerchick - will think about a couple of challenges to add to yours lol. Take care and have a good day folks!!!

Just come back from taking DD to her swimming lesson, she is so tired I've put her to bed so I get an hour or so's peace and quiet!

My fund is building nicely....so far.....

    £244 from BT overpayment
    £90 catalogue overpayment
    £25 ing direct bonus
    £25 paypal
    £58 catalogue commision
so a grand total of £442 so far!:T:T:T:T:T:T:T

Thats my greenhouse paid for and a few other little bits besides. I am still waiting for ebay to sort out my account as I have five years worth of kids clothes to sell, and all the other little bits I have acumulated (SP??) over the years to add to the fund.

I have also had a bit of a result with my leccie as I queried my bill at the last meter reading as I thought it was too high, and guess what, Scottish Power had been charging a standard rate since I had the economy seven meter fitted. So I had been paying more for my night rate than I should. A lovely rebate of £900 winging its way to me as we speak!:T
I will have to keep that separate from my gardening fund as I have a sneaky feeling that my car won't last too long. This way I have some money set aside as my car emergency fund which I am adding to each month at the rate of £20, not a lot on its own but with a nice big boost I feel alot happier.

I have measured my veg plot/area and am about to put the kettle on, get out the pens and paper and plan it out ready for a bit of organising at the weekend.

Can anyone advise how much space I should leave for chooks? I thought of having a run and coop in a fixed area and let them out to free range when I am about (once the area is all ready and fenced in like fort knox!) and I beleive that having raised beds is easier to protect crops from curious and hungry beaks.

I must see if I can get hold of some scaffold boards soon to start building the beds......must ask my next door neighbour as hes a builder! I thought a 9 foot by 4 foot bed would be a fairly decent size and I could probably put lots of those in! I few little odd sizes for asparagus and two little ones for the kids!

I've planted some sunflower seeds the other week, not very productive I know, but bright and sunny and they will be the only flowers in my garden!

I also have an old pig shed (well thats what we call it!) which is basically a really little stone outbuilding that originally had the loos for both our house and next door, it still has the plank with the bum holes it! I would love for this to be a garden room for everyone and for when the kids get bigger (ie the dreaded teens, a long way off I know but a bit of planning never hurt anyone!) but it needs a lot of work so I thought little and often. At the moment it is being held up by monster ivy, I swear this stuff is mutant! I am trying to get rid but I am struggling as it has been let go for such a long time. Has anyone got any suggestions re removing very rampant ivy?

Well after that ramble I hope you have not all fallen asleep!!

Keep well everyone, and keep dreaming!

CTC, I'll have a think about your mini challenges. Maybe making money from your garden might be one, eg, how much you earn from selling eggs, veg, plants etc???

Off to put the kettle on now,

    Hi guys

I've not been here for a couple of weeks as I've been busy playing Florence Nightingale to DH, working in the week as well as making another corset. BUT I have made time to go to the allotment nearly every day. :D

I have finished preparing the brassica bed and planted the calabrese and cabbages. there are still cauliflowers and sprouts in the greenhouse but they'll have to wait until Saturday as I'm worn out!!

The May payment to my work's sharesave account has been added to my fund total. It is not increasing as fast as I'd like, but I need to get hubby back to work for it to grow any quicker! ;)

Mambury, to get rid of ivy, you can use glyphosate, but if it's really thick there's no point, as it's better then to saw through the thick stems at ground level. (I used an angle grinder for that.) You then have to wait a while till the ivy turns brown & yucky-looking, so it's probably best to leave the job till early autumn. Winter weather working on the dead ivy will help you pull it away in the spring, but you'll still have the aerial roots, which are a pain and cling to things for years afterwards.

Incidentally, where I'm going, they got an old caravan for their teenager. I'm rather hoping they leave it behind.;)

No idea about the space needed for chooks, but I will know by this time next year! The babies look sweet, but I'm going to start with big ones till I get the hang of it.

Stitching Witch, I'm glad to hear DH is on the mend. You are clocking-up a lot of favours he owes you! Bloomin weather has been so hot for planting out stuff, but the weekend looks a better bet in between the showers.

Best of luck everyone with whatever you're up to at the weekend. I might look at a very small wood. I can't afford it, but with the price of fuel and the time it takes to grow your own......Anyone have an arrangement with local landowners over collecting fallen timber? The Forestry Commission used to issue licences, but they've stopped this now....Health & Safety. Huh!
