Its very COMMON to see lame sheep....doesn't mean its ''normal'' if you see what I mean. If I were Pete I'd certainly want to know.

I have left a message. He was at his other job. No one is 'just a farmer' round here, apart from the ones that never get their hands dirty, of course. ;)

I must of copied everything - weird.

if you think of anything granma, granpa used/wore/slept on/in then its popular on e bay....

I should have a right snoop about - loads of stuff seems new on there, plastic fridge magnets etc. I haven't really looked at it that much.

We were supposed to be having a metriote shower but it's overcast & cloudy out there.

when you are looking at a site/subject on e-bay always scroll down left hand side and tick boxes to remove the c**p ! tick... used only, uk only, auction only. think u will find it helps boredom setting in also look up under COLLECTABLES OR ANTIQUE.

I only like fowl language! Chatting to the hens at 7.30 this morning, I told them I wanted more brown eggs and not to look upon yesterday as some kind of high point. ;)

Looks like the ram is a bit lame. I will have to tell Pete the farmer, but I don't want to make a mountain out of a molehill. :o Is it normal for sheep to limp a bit? I know the cat does sometimes, and she gets over it!
be very carefull if sheep is lame ...they can get foot rot very easily also they can get "thorns" in thier heels if they are scraping around for food in brambles/coarse undergrowth? both need treatment.
they always say "sheep are born waiting to die!"

I used to keep my horse in a field of sheep and it fascinated me that when they were scared they would just run at the thing they were scared of! I am sure when they are running that they scream at a pitch to high for us to hear and every time I see them I think of the silent screaming of sheep!

Hi CTC & Alfie - Hilda Ogden pinnies & Dingle chic - I'm learning loads on here.
Just back from the big shop & a tour of the charity shops but the new jumper I bought, OH wants it for XMas as his are all raggy. I got it to try & sell on ebay - Bah. I will have to watch as I can get a bit charity shop frenzied. Can you tell I don't get out much?

Rummer - my sheep who have rarely been worked with a dog but came from a place who had monster dog - one of those huge french sheep dog things that rotweiller's are bred down from - well it went for a sheep dog - ran at it & broke its spirit - sheep are not all meek & mild & can be aggressive. My alpha sheep killed a well grown lamb last year that I saw & may have actually killed a second one by butting it to death.

Hi Dave - If the ram has been busy he may be a bit limping especially if the ground has been hard. Sheep's feet need triming - some breeeds more than others & dependant on the ground they are on - whether it keeps them worn down or not. Foot rot is a infection that sheep can get but your ram has probably just been a bit enthusiastic & got a slight strain!

Ground has been hard, but not in the days since the weekend. In fact I had the back door open from mid morning until around 4pm today it was so mild. There are some patches where the sun hasn't reached which are still frozen, however.

We will have another look at him in the morning. Pete is back on his own farm tomorrow. :)

Thanks, and to alfie too. No brambles, but thorns quite prolific here. I tried to get 'em all out...:(

Very rarely do people talk about the days like the one I'm having. Its not one of the bad days...noone dead who isn't meant to be, no injuries or vet's bills, no bust pipes (touch wood!).

I'm just tired. I don't feel ready to gird my loins for the onslaught of weather tomorrow: either inside or out. Even mixing up grass pellets seemed an almost impossible chore this evening. Its not just me the cats are winding around my legs slowly to lure me to our bed. I wish the dogs could let themselves in and out for the evening as I'm so willing to comply with the cats...but the dogs wouldn't be able to cross their legs all night if I go up now, by habit rather than out of need I do a late check last thing at night usually, but not tonight. I think I have my first chilblain.....probably from coming in from the cold rather than going out: I've been playing with the woodburner while I was tied in the house with the surveyors so my little sitting room is very cosy. I've been religiously applying hand cream to try and re discover ''girls hands'' but my index fingers feel like sandpaper still and have ground in dirt. I wear gloves but I can't find the yard gloves I love best, and when I checked the price in autumn for a new pair they had rocketed to £36 ...or GLOVES to do yard work in, nope, not happening. My nails? well, lets not start on them, I'm not sure there is even enough of them to shape neatly. We have been invited to a party in the village at the weekend and I know I should charge my epilator, but ...yep...to exhausting....I thought I could ask the family down the road with their clipped hunters if they fancied giving me a hunter clip on saturday morning instead. ;) I can't get to a shop before the weekend to get foundation and realised yesterday that I hadn't noticed I've dropped about four skin shades from when I was in Italy just a few weeks ago ...I bought foundation in the airport..and its not the same colour as me any more. I can't imagine getting enough energy to go to a party, let alone get dressed for one ATM.

I can't imaginehow I'll stay awake late enough to let the dogs out, and the idea of getting up in the morning and doing the chores is very slightly nauseating. I'm sure I'll feel peppier in the morning after a great sleep...but ooomph...I'msure you all know these sort of evenings well!

eta: I could do with a cup of tea, but the kitchen seems TOO far away...that's how tired I am!
