Pheasant is lovely - haven't had one for ages.

Saw some Japanese game birds at the rare breed sale - lovely. Too nice looking to eat. One of the estates here used to breed a blue pheasant, sort of an electric blue colour. I used to be a grdener there & they were all over the place - what a cucuck noise they make when they take off - scares the daylights out of you.
Just had a call. I have a box of hind to collect tomorrow - yipee.

:) I'm not keen on pheasant. I cook it because everyone else is. As birds they are stunning. I used to live near wear someone bred golden pheasants for a grandiose shoot. Quite glorious birds, in all their colours. The blues must look amazing en masse.

    No heating at all?

No central heating no although we have an electric fire in the living room which is keeping us going. At least this time we have an electric shower and the fire. Last time we had no heat or hot water from Dec to April.

Well I popped out to tesco and got some thermals (thank you Lostrinates) and I have ordered a balaclava and headlamp on ebay so that I will be all snuggly when doing the animals at night.

Think I will have a look at thermal muckers too!

Alfie, she's a sweetie, and you managed it just fine! We're open to a ride and drive joinging us, or one who does one and can be broken to the other.....doesn't matter which way round, but were not looking,....it will find us eventually, and till then we can't afford it.

Isn't it beautiful out there! everyone was waiting for breakfast this morning, and I spread grit for the first time....ok, I didn't really need to but it was a dry run. ;)

choille, what better to be biased about than your hens :)
i wasnt looking for another hoss, i lost my driving pony last year aged 30, bless him. the TBs retired 26, and the 3 1/2 shetlands are waitng to all be broken to drive. tallest being 31 inches to the shoulder, i could stand astride them !!
BUT i saw RUBY and fell in love ??!! also there was no one there to stop me !!
i often get offered horses but hav 2 be realistic...... its sad cos people are getting rid mainly due to loss of grazing or just costs. 2 many people dont think it through and forget horses live a long time... my horses have over the years been with me for all thier life.
one will present itself to you when yr not expecting it and hey ho....youll have it i bet !!

That's the thing, people always want to give you something, but its often inappropriate. I'm afraid I'm being really strict ATM. I may or may not put my special girl in foal in spring, but only something that I can work with, that DH can ride and that will earn its keep arrives or is bred. I've further limited the choice by imposing colour restrictions. I'm trying hard to postpone finding anything that fits the bill.

Yes - everything has gone B & W. All the colour has gone.

RAS - The cats slump beside the stove on the bench, they know the score.

I think it's worse over on the East but the wind is due to get up tonight - brrrrrrrrr.

OH is going to shift the car up to the road as he has to go somewhere tomorrow if the weather permits.

There was a tree blown over a few days back down the croft. It's sort of now leaning over the gorge has knocked another on the slope so that's also leaning straight out. I was hoping to try & get the first one up here but need OH to help. The tree appears rotten in the inside - so would do as imminent firewood. Funny it was growing over a biggish boulder that is now uncovered.

My chainsaw, which is ancient, appears deid. We saw most things up by hand. We do have a circular saw outside the shed -- once it's up here, up top then we can log stuff. Just getting it up here - I drag stuff in stages, leave little piles of wood all over the place.

I spent a bit of time oogling at Quad bikes on t'interwebber this afternoon..............
perhaps u should get yourself a moorland pony [cobby] to pull all yr heavy stuff around. just chain it up [the logs] an dit will pull out of awkward places??

LIR - cats go under the covers too but they fight sometimes = yikes! Also I have had sheep ticks in my belly that have come off them - i'm sure - so possibly a bit disgusting - so don't tell anyone.

Got a couple of pairs of camoflague leggings in Tescos the other week - a pair each. We call them our blotchy pants. They were only a £1 a pair from the reduced rail. I wish I'd bought them all as they are great under jeans.
army surplass do the most amazing ARCTIC trousers and tops. super warm.

when you say a BLUE pheasant ... were they dumpier and have a wispy plume on head with wattles ? if so they sound like a rare breed. i had a pair years ago but cant remember thier name as i had lots of breeds ! may be Vietnamese blues. the feathers are well liked by hat makers. so could be a side line!!
