Really cold here too & supposed to get worse overnight. It's a two cat night - they lie on top of us on the bed.

The sheep all came down to the fence at 4pm - trying to hussle me up for their feed - which I heeded.

Decided that I am so sick of being cold that I am going to get some thermals and some new thermal gloves. It is freezing and since I have no heating I deserve a little bit of warmth!

I was thinking of you and wondering how things were up north. Very cold here and I am told snow at home; there was a flurry this morning before I left.

Are the cats trying to keep you warm, or are you the warmest place in the van?

Cats under the covers are better than hot water bottles...its where mine sleep.

Rummer I'm already living in thermals. Tesco are doing vaguely pretty ones with flowers on them, I have two sets and one is always on, one in the wash. I also have thermal muckers a foot wear, fleece insoles help otherwise. When is dry i wear fake uggs, but otherwise its the thermal muckers.

Yes - everything has gone B & W. All the colour has gone.

RAS - The cats slump beside the stove on the bench, they know the score.

I think it's worse over on the East but the wind is due to get up tonight - brrrrrrrrr.

OH is going to shift the car up to the road as he has to go somewhere tomorrow if the weather permits.

There was a tree blown over a few days back down the croft. It's sort of now leaning over the gorge has knocked another on the slope so that's also leaning straight out. I was hoping to try & get the first one up here but need OH to help. The tree appears rotten in the inside - so would do as imminent firewood. Funny it was growing over a biggish boulder that is now uncovered.

My chainsaw, which is ancient, appears deid. We saw most things up by hand. We do have a circular saw outside the shed -- once it's up here, up top then we can log stuff. Just getting it up here - I drag stuff in stages, leave little piles of wood all over the place.

I spent a bit of time oogling at Quad bikes on t'interwebber this afternoon..............

Unless they happen to be regular mousers and bring home presents.

Steamed puddytat is one thing, but a panicked live offering doing circuits inside your duvet cover is a bit disturbing.

LIR - cats go under the covers too but they fight sometimes = yikes! Also I have had sheep ticks in my belly that have come off them - i'm sure - so possibly a bit disgusting - so don't tell anyone.

Got a couple of pairs of camoflague leggings in Tescos the other week - a pair each. We call them our blotchy pants. They were only a £1 a pair from the reduced rail. I wish I'd bought them all as they are great under jeans.

    No heating at all?

It is so bitter here today, think I may need to treat myself to a balaclava!

Yes, I'm glad to be off the old field shelter roof after 3 days up there, on & off, fixing it. I thought covering with polytunnel plastic would be quick, but it's been a bit of a nightmare, mainly because the shelter isn't square and has a nice bend in the back! :(

Set up extra sheep rations tonight too, though I'm told it's old hay.

With brilliant timing, the Aga man came today, serviced it and set it going for the winter, warning us about who's selling iffy fuel, as he did last year. ;)

Then, in a random moment, Aga man says, "Do you want a pheasant?" We nod, and one comes out of his van, already plucked & dressed.
"The lady at the last house gave it to me as a present," he says, "but I don't like 'em!"

So, we are one pheasant up again. The last one made a great Sunday roast and did two rolls yesterday as well. :)

Pheasant is lovely - haven't had one for ages.

Saw some Japanese game birds at the rare breed sale - lovely. Too nice looking to eat. One of the estates here used to breed a blue pheasant, sort of an electric blue colour. I used to be a grdener there & they were all over the place - what a cucuck noise they make when they take off - scares the daylights out of you.
Just had a call. I have a box of hind to collect tomorrow - yipee.
